Please begin by giving us a brief career history:
WBNQ/Bloomington, On-Air Talent.
WIND/Chicago, AM Producer & Board Op.
WZND/Normal, IL, Program Director & Air Talent.
WXRT/Chicago, Programming & Promotions.
WZFS-WYLL/Chicago, Promotions & Production.
WZND/Normal, IL, Production Teaching Assistant.1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
I'm young in the industry and I know that I have the goods to make it. Yeah, it's going to take some time, but I'm OK with that ... as long as it happens.
2) Do you plan on sticking with the music/radio industry?
Definitely! Even if I had just won the lottery, you'd still find me behind a board somewhere.
3) What is your best way to get your foot in the door?
Network, make good impressions, do quality work, and make myself available.
4) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied? (Callbacks, emails, rejection letters, etc.)
As much as I'd like a refrigerator door full of rejection letters, the "no response" response and the quick e-mail response are starting to grow on me. I didn't like it at first, but now it pushes me to apply at more stations.
.
5) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
I'm shooting for a weekday shift at a CHR, AAA, or Rock station. I'd like to get my hands on some production and imaging work, too. Oh, and I'd make a great MD.
6) What's the craziest thing you've ever done to get a job?
So far, I've snagged my jobs just by being "that guy" willing to take any shift at any time. FYI: I can drink a gallon of milk in 6 minutes and 6 seconds. That has to count for something!
7) What's the most unbelievable question you've ever been asked in an interview?
"What makes you laugh?" Hey, it was a good question. My answer was about three minutes long
8) What do you miss most about music/radio?
#1 The People: The best people I now know work in radio.
#2 The Music: I miss being at the edge of breaking music and I miss turning people on to great new artists.9) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I do a lot of artwork, read, exercise, and take short trips to visit my friends.
Don't get me wrong, I know how to have a good time.
10) Care to contribute a low-cost recipe to our "ON THE BEACH" cookbook?
Step 1: Visit your favorite 24 hour gas station.
Step 2: Pick up a "king size" Snickers bar and large coffee.
Step 3: Enjoy! (Don't spill coffee in lap). -
