Please begin by giving us a brief career history:
It's been short and sweet. Mornings-WYKS Gainesville, FL July '02 to July '05
1) What do you do to maintain a positive mental attitude and stay motivated?
I try to have as much fun as possible! Getting up at 4:30 am doesn't exactly put you in a good mood. Looking forward to a fun show is the only way to go.
2) How are you occupying your time, besides looking for a job?
I'm a movie fanatic. I love them, especially horrors and comedies. I sing, which is how I got into the business. And last but not least, I take photos...lots of them. Will someone take the film away from me now?
3) Some people get discouraged or enlightened with the business when they actually step out of it for a while. Tell us your observations from the outside.
I'm still working fulltime, but I'm planning a move to San Diego at the end of the month. Not knowing where I'm going to work really freaks me out! It's scary thinking I might have to leave the business, even if it is for a short while.
4) Do you plan on sticking with the music/radio industry?
Hell yeah. Music is what drives me. Without it, I'd just be another geeky college drop out doing arts n' crafts..
5) What is your best way to get your foot in the door?
Ball your toes up and kick it!
6) So far what has been your best resource for finding out about job openings?
All Access. I also use radio guides for certain areas. Oh, and Broadcasters Association websites. And Radio Online...sometimes.
7) What is the next job you'd like to obtain?
Full time airwork in the San Diego area. I would LOVE afternoons or middays, but I am used to the morning schedule so.....
8) How are you finding the "courtesy level" at places you've applied? (Callbacks, emails, rejection letters, etc.)
Sometimes it gets frustrating... just waiting and waiting. I wish they would just say, "I like you, we hate you, get lost, you're awesome," etc... just say it and I'll leave you alone!
9) Is there anything specific that you regret doing, while you were still working?
I regret staying put because I was scared. Early on I got offers that I turned down because I thought I wasn't ready. Really, I was just terrified. Now I think, "What the hell have I been doing?"
10) Having been through all you have dealt with in this biz, what advice would you give people trying to break in?
How the hell should I know, I'm still trying to figure it out!
Bonus Questions
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
Having a blast and living like I was 5, 10 years younger!
Uh oh ... now you're on your own for getting new music. If applicable, name your three most recent purchases since leaving the biz.
Top 3 right now would be the new Black Eyed Peas, the new Coldplay, and um...... let's go with some Anna Nalick. And I do love Common. Crap. That's more than 3.
Great movies I've recently seen ...
"Spanglish" with Adam Sandler. I just bought it. It's adorable. Ooh and my favorite, "Anchorman!" Will Farrell is a comedy God! Also, "Ladder 49" and "The Village." Joaquin Phoenix... he's delicious. :)
Oprah or Dr. Phil?
Hmmm... Uhhh... Well.... ELLEN!
