Facebook Updating Trending Section

In an effort to combat fake news, Facebook announced plans this week to update their Trending section. The social media giant will reportedly stop pulling trending topics based on single news reports, and discontinue personalizing trending topics for each user. The updated Trending section will only feature topics covered by multiple media organizations, and all users in the same country will see the same list of trending topics. According to Recode, "As with all Facebook algorithms, the specific mix of signals that might result in something trending is kept behind a curtain. There's no hard and fast rule for how many outlets need to cover a topic or event before it qualifies as Trending, for example." Read more on the story here.
