Apple's iPad has been getting most of the attention in the e-reader wars over the past few weeks, but Amazon's Kindle, formerly the market leader in these devices, is looking over its other shoulder, too. Barnes & Noble's Nook e-reader outsold the Kindle in March, as the sales of e-readers continue to increase.
Digitimes Research <http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20100426VL204.html> estimates that 11 million e-readers will be sold in 2010. Publicity surrounding the iPad has brought more attention to e-readers (even though the iPad is not, strictly speaking, an e-reader). These devices are also becoming more widespread due to additional retail exposure. In addition to being sold directly from Barnes & Noble, the Nook is being sold in Best Buy stores (as is the iPad), while target will soon be selling the Kindle.
