AT&T's Other New Data Move

Somewhat lost in AT&T's announcement of ending the unlimited data plan was the news that they are also untethering the iPhone. Users will now be able to use their iPhones (and other smartphones) as a modem for their laptops or other computers. iPhone users have complained about the lack of this feature for some time.

Tethering in terms of Internet service is analogous to going cell phone only for phone service. With a tethered mobile device, a user can connect to the Internet without separate broadband service from a cable or phone company.
