WZBH Currently1) What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
I'd say Oil Tycoon but there's no money in it. Seriously I would still be in some sort of entertainment industry. Without a doubt this is my thing.
2) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff?
Does that Jack FM voice guy count? When will that guy run out of witty things to say? (hmmm, sarcasm) I really like Madison on Alt Nation.
3) What is your favorite radio station outside of the market and why?
KXTE Las Vegas. I've always wanted to work there. A lot of alternative stations seem to be fizzling out. Have a listen to x1075, that's the future sound of rock radio. Imaging, jocks, street presence, webpage, not being afraid to add new music ... especially when they had Stern, that station is in my opinion the complete package.
4) Besides your own, what is your favorite radio format?
Talk radio. Real talk radio with local personalities. Not just a beefy big name syndicated bore fest line up. Talk stations have to stop being so cheap.
5) What's the closest you ever came to getting arrested for an on-air stunt? Or did you actually get arrested?
When I was at WHFS we would hide HFStival all access golden tickets around DC and then give out clues for listeners to find them. I hid one late one night at the Naval Academy. Those riot twisty tie cuffs are very uncomfortable.
6) Who would be your dream guest on the show?
Axl Rose. In a world gone mad with phony musicians and actors who sell us crap with a big fake smile on their face, it would be an honor to sit down with someone who would at least speak his own mind.
7) What is your favorite TV Commercial? Radio Commercial?
That Geico tv spot with the cavemen: I'll have the roast duck with the mango salsa ... I don't have much of an appetite right now. Yeah next time maybe do a little research.
8) How do you stay in tune with your audience?
I answer every listener phone call during my show. I just don't take requests and say thanks for calling. I pry, I converse with them just as I do with my friends.
9) What do you like best about working in this format?
I can be real. I've worked in other formats where I had to put on that fake smiley face voice and hold back for the sake of not offending some soccer mom in a minivan.
10) How much time do you spend surfing the net?
Practically 24/7. I'm a show prep monster and I monitor a ton of stations. It really helps getting my creative gears turning.
