Please outline your radio career so far: (station/date, station/date, etc.)
I started out at WGRF as an intern/part time jock. Hit WEDG/Buffalo for overnights. Then crossed the state to WXCR/Albany for Afternoon drive, then added APD stripes for WXCR/WQBK. Left Albany to program CKEY/Buffalo, then back to WEDG for MD/Morning show producer, now residing in the heartland of America, Des Moines.
1) If you were just starting out in radio, knowing now, what you didn't then, would you still do it?
Totally. It's been a great ride and wouldn't change it for the world.
2) What can we be doing with our station websites to better our stations as a whole?
Stations and station websites should be one stop shopping for popular culture. That means music, sports, celebrities, jock blogs, everything that is of interest to our audience. We have active audiences, and our sites should reflect that.
3) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff?
Shredd and Ragan, WEDG Buffalo. Incredibly talented jocks and great guys.
4) Besides your own, what is your favorite radio format?
Alternative and talk
5) If you could add any one full-time position to your budget with no questions asked, what would it be?
Webmaster.
6) What's the best concert you've been to so far this year and why?
U2. Nobody does it better.
7) Tell us what music we would find on your car or home CD player (or turntable) right now and what is it you enjoy about that particular selection?
Greg Dulli -- Amber Headlights. A talented songwriter from the Afghan Whigs to his latest with the Twilight Singers.
8) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
You're only as good (or as bad) as your last 30 days.
9) What are your three favorite artists or songs of this year?
Seether -- Remedy; Nine Inch Nails -- The Hand That Feeds; Foo Fighters -- Best of You.
10) What is the best advice you would give to young programmers/promotion people?
Learn as much as you can, and then share that knowledge with those around you.
Bonus Questions
As you look back over your career ... any regrets? Missed opportunities?
Regrets, I have a few. But then again, too few to mention.
What is your favorite TV show?
A toss up between Rescue Me and Entourage.
Fill in the blank. I can't make it through the day without ...
checking email and IM.
What has been the best performing record on the station so far this year?
Mudvayne -- Happy.
What's the best piece of advice anyone's ever given you?
Someone once told me, "A job is what you do, not who you are." What happens to Ryan Patrick the person is more important than Ryan Patrick the radio guy.
