BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
KEGL (since '93) ... before that, KDGE, KISX and KPXI.
1) What career path would you be following had it not been for this industry?
Pig farming.
2) What makes your station or market unique?
The Eagle is a straight-up, meat-and-potatoes Rock station. We don't try to be anything else. How does this compare to other markets or stations I've have worked at? I've worked at the Eagle for the better part of 15 years; it's the only way we've done it.
3) How do you feel terrestrial radio competes with the satellite radio and Internet these days?
Terrestrial radio is doing great against these other outlets. We're a local station that promotes local concerts, gives traffic, local content, etc. That gives us an advantage; not that people don't listen to their iPods/Internet/satellite, but I believe they all come back to radio.
4) Where do you see the industry and yourself five years from now?
I think things will start to settle out soon and when they do, radio will be in a much stronger position.
5) What is the biggest change that you'd like to see happen in the business?
I would like to see more and better quality content. I'd also like to see more grooming of air talent.
6) If you could add any one full-time position to your budget with no questions asked, what would it be?
Night jock ... Zakk United voicetracks from Houston and does an amazing job. I just wish he was in-house
7) How often do you do remotes and which work best for the station?
We've really cut back on our remotes; we only do the ones that make the most sense for the station. The five-remote weekends are long gone
8) What approach do you take after a soft book?
Re-evaluate what you're doing -- is the station to narrow? Too hard? Off course with its promotions? I wouldn't make any drastic changes, just tweak to get back on track.
9) As you look back over your career ... any regrets? Missed opportunities?
No regrets. No missed opportunities that I'm aware of. I'm very happy about where I am at this moment.
10) What do you like best about working in this format?
It's fun ... I can't believe they pay me to do this.
