Thrice
Aug 29, 2011
Thrice has been a staple in the alternative world for nearly 10 years now. The California-based four-piece is known for effortlessly and continuously releasing groundbreaking records. Thrice formed in 1998 and quickly exploded onto the alternative rock and heavy music scenes with their 2001 full-length debut, Identity Crisis, which was followed by fan-favorite scorchers The Illusion of Safety (2002) and The Artist In The Ambulance (2003), as well as the breathtakingly brilliant Vheissu (2005). The Alchemy Index's Fire and Water installments introduced the album's elaborate concept in 2007, and then Earth and Air completed the project's scope in 2008. The band toured extensively in support of Alchemy, including a national headlining run with Circa Survive and Pelican in support, as well as high-profile support slots with Brand New and Rise Against, in addition to appearances on this summer's Warped Tour.
Just as with The Alchemy Index, Thrice took on the challenge of tracking and producing Beggars (2009) themselves, hunkering down in their studio for the sessions. Intentionally forsaking the digital wizardry used on Alchemy, Thrice began developing the new batch of songs largely through jam sessions inspired by the numerous ideas each member of the quartet brought to the table. The resulting tracks sound both "live" and organic, and effectively represent the band's ever-changing aesthetic.
Building off the momentum of Beggars, Thrice (frontman/guitarist Dustin Kensrue, guitarist Teppei Teranishi, bassist Eddie Breckenridge and drummer Riley Breckenridge) once again found themselves getting back to basics; four guys sitting in a room jamming out, making music. "We had so much fun making Beggars and it was such a smooth process that it only made sense to keep capitalizing on the natural energy in the room when we're together," notes Riley. "We just wanted to focus on being a rock band."
Their upcoming eighth studio album, Major/Minor, will be online starting Tuesday September 6th with the CD and digital versions available on September 20th. Each LP comes with a download card, which will be active starting 9/20, 2-LP gatefold packaging, and additional liner notes from the band. The first pressing will be relegated to 4,000 copies worldwide and pressed on clear vinyl with a blue splatter. The itunes version will feature two exclusive bonus tracks, acoustic versions of the songs "Yellow Belly" and the first single "Promises." The acoustic version of "Promises" will only be available to fans that pre-order the album and will be taken down come 9/20.
The band has also announced tour dates through the Fall in support of Major/Minor.
