Seether
Oct 31, 2011
Hailing from South Africa and comprising members Shaun Morgan (vocals, guitar), Dale Stewart (bass), and John Humphrey (drums), Seether embraces a brand of heavy metal mostly associated with the post-grunge era of alternative music, complete with crunchy distortion and brooding textures. The band emerged in 1999 as Saron Gas (a name taken from the back of a sound effects CD) and released their debut album, Fragile, the following year on Musketeer Records. In a country whose musical tastes center around pop and indigenous music, Fragile found impressive chart success. Across the Atlantic, the U.S.-based Wind Up Records caught wind of the band's growing popularity and signed the South African bandmates, who changed their name to Seether in light of Saron Gas's similarity to the lethal nerve agent sarin gas. In a career that's spanned nearly a decade, the power trio has toured the globe on the strength of five Gold and Platinum-selling albums: steadily growing a devoted fan base while continually pushing creative boundaries.
Seether breaks new ground again with its fifth studio LP, Holding onto Strings Better Left to Fray released on May 17, 2011 which debuted #2 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S. Their first single off the album "Country Song" debuted on March 8th and reached #1 on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock Songs Chart. Their second single, released on June 7th, is titled "Tonight." The song is currently impacting Radio radio and peaked at #2 on the US Mainstream Rock Songs Chart.
