Saving Abel
Nov 17, 2013

Without a label, the boys from Saving Abel got together with longtime producer Skidd Mills at Skiddco Music and decided they wanted to give back to their fans. The end result is their new EP, Crackin' the Safe, out on August 6th via Hell No Pick'n. It features songs that all the members decided on and recorded in Nashville. The EP sticks to what Saving Abel is known for, those southern rock roots with catchy hooks and that country soul that can't help but sneak in every song showing every listener these boys still know where they came from. The band's latest single, "Mystify", was offered as a free download on their homepage.
"We wanted something to come out while we started on a new record. We wanted to say to our fans, here are some songs that we really love and we don't want you guys to have to wait long for music. It's to say thanks for hanging around with us and supporting us," said front-man Jared Weeks, who is filling in for Hinder's Austin Winkler on that band's upcoming fall tour.
This platinum-selling southern rock band formed in 2004 by Jared Weeks and Jason Null. The band title is from the ancient biblical story of Cain and Abel, about a brother who killed his own brother. Band member Jason Null thought up the band title saying "I Googled the story of Cain and Abel and found a line about 'there was no saving Abel,' which just jumped out at me." The band gradually came together with the addition of guitar player Scott Bartlett, bass player Eric Taylor, and Blake Dixon on drums. They released their self-titled, major label debut in 2008. The CD featured the lead song "Addicted," which rose to No. 2 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs charts. In 2009 the CD peaked at No. 49 on the Billboard 200. The album received the certification of Gold in the week of March 16th 2009, because of the lead single. Then, they went on to release their second CD, Miss America in 2010. The first single was "Stupid Girl (Only In Hollywood)" and it went to No. 7 on the Mainstream Rock Song chart. "Sex Is Good" was later issued as the 2nd single, reaching the No. 1 spot on the same chart in January 2011. Their third album, Bringing Down the Giant, was released in 2012.
