Swedish metal band Avatar has debuted a second track, "Bloody Angel," from their forthcoming album, Hail the Apocalypse. The album was recorded in Karma Sound Studios, Bang Saray, Thailand, mixed by Jay Ruston (Stone Sour, Anthrax, Steel Panther) and mastered by Paul Logus (Volbeat, Clutch, Killswitch Engage). It will be released on May 13th via eOne Music.
Vocalist Johannes Eckerström explains the new single: "Bloody Angel is about shame and guilt. You look around and watch all the suffering and while searching for someone or something to blame, you end up in front of the mirror. Everything you touch, you break. Everyone you try to save you hurt and push further away. It is a sad reality of being alive, the fact that the closer you get, the more pain you risk inflicting. You try to stay in the light, spread your wings and aim for the sun. But your eyes and hands are covered in blood and you hit the ground, dragging everything that matters with you. The riff is pretty cool too."
Originally formed in 2001 by drummer John Alfredsson and singer Johannes Eckerström, Avatar has seen several European tours and they have performed at several of the larger music festivals in Sweden, e.g. Sweden Rock Festival, Arvikafestivalen and Storsjöyran. Schlacht, the second album by Avatar was released in 2007, reaching spot 27 on the Swedish album chart. The band's third album, the self-titled Avatar, was released in Sweden in 2009 reaching the 36th position on the national album chart. In 2012 the album Black Waltz was released in Europe. It reached position 25 on the album list in Avatar's native Sweden. In the fall of 2013 the band spent a month in Thailand recording for a new album.
This new album comes on top of a very busy year for Avatar. The band has been named the opener on a tour with Pop Evil and Escape the Fate with a highlighted appearance scheduled for the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio.
