"Outside" is the latest single from Foo Fighter's eighth studio album, "Sonic Highways". It came out on November 10th via RCA Records. The single was recorded in Joshua Tree, California, and features Joe Walsh of the Eagles on guitar. In writing the album's eight songs, singer and guitarist Dave Grohl traveled to eight cities across the United States to conduct interviews with musicians, recording engineers, record producers, and other individuals discussing each city's musical history, which he used as inspiration for the songs' lyrics. Each track features contributions from one or more musicians with ties to that city's musical history. The process was filmed for a companion television series, Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways, which was broadcast on HBO in the months surrounding the album's release.
Formed in Seattle in 1994, Foo Fighters was founded by Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl as a one-man project following the death of Kurt Cobain. The current line-up consists of Dave Grohl (lead vocals, guitar & drums), Pat Smear (guitar), Nate Mendel (bass), Taylor Hawkins (drums) and Chris Shiflett (guitar). Foo Fighters are one of the biggest and most consistently successful alternative rock bands today. Over the course of the band's career, four of their albums have won Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album.
Despite breaking his leg earlier this summer, Foo Fighters are continuing on with their North American tour. They are booked solid from now until November when they head to Europe.
