According to Nielsen’s report, "How Teens Use Media... myths and realities of teen media trends,” teenagers out-text all other age groups: In the first quarter of 2011, teens from 13-17 years old sent an average of 3,364 mobile texts per month, more than doubling the rate of the next most active texting demo, 18-24 year olds (1,640 texts per month). Delays at New York's JFK Airport yesterday --not for the weather, maintenance or a passenger disturbance, but for turtles.
About 100 diamondback terrapins crawled out of the marshes yesterday morning and started crossing Runway 4 Left, prompting a shutdown for more than an hour. Port Authority specialists had to pick them up and relocate them out of harm's way. Delays were minor because the runway isn't used much right now.
Why did the turtle cross the road? It's breeding time, and the reptiles were heading to a sandy spot on the other side of the runway to lay their eggs. A similar thing happened in 2009. (Maiman)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
LINDSAY LOHAN can finally leave the confines of her Venice, California, townhouse after completing her tortured, 35 days of house arrest. Us Weekly reports she's still got lots of work to do like attending an anti-shoplifting class and completing 480 hours of community service.
Lindsay will have to stay on probation from her two previous DUI cases in 2007, but is no longer subject to random drug and alcohol tests.
By the way, Linds turns 25 years old on Saturday. (Lee)Face time with the Judge:
MICHELLE YEOH arrived in Myanmar last Wednesday, and was immediately deported. The Hollywood Reporter says the actress is allegedly on the military government's blacklist because of her next movie. Michelle stars as pro-Democracy activist AUNG SAN SUU KYI in "The Lady," which is due out later this year. Michelle visited Suu Kyi in Myanmar last December to do research for the film.
Government officials won't comment on why the actress was deported. Michelle is a former Miss Malaysia.
Editor's Note: This also means Michelle is now banned from using Burma Shave ever again. (Marino)Broadcast, cable and video news:
Story of the day: You've probably heard about that guy who catches would-be internet sex perverts in televised stings. On CHRIS HANSEN's NBC show, "To Catch a Predator," they set up cameras and grab the guys as they show up for their underaged "date."
And now, Chris himself has allegedly been caught. To be clear, he wasn't going out with an under-aged girl. But the 51-year-old married host has been caught by the National Enquirer supermarket tabloid, which filmed him as he had a date with KRISTYN CADDELL, a 30-year-old blonde TV reporter from Florida who he's reportedly been "dating" for the past four months.
The Enquirer cameras got shots of a romantic dinner last weekend at the exclusive Ritz-Carlton Hotel, and then spending the night at her Palm Beach apartment.
Hansen's married to MARY JOAN, his 51-year-old wife, and has two sons; they live in Connecticut. What's new?:
Researchers at the University of California at San Diego have created a new, high-tech Smell-O-Vision device.
According to the NY Post, the gadget can be plugged into a TV set to generate 10-thousand different odors on demand. (Still)
