Stars and their movies:
If you go to see "Spy Kids" this weekend, you'll notice it's supposed to be viewed in 4-D. That's kind of a joke from director ROBERT RODRIGUEZ, since when you go into the theatre, along with the 3D glasses, you'll also be getting a scratch-and-sniff card which will be used to add "smells" to various scenes.
Rodriguez calls it "Aroma Scope," and not to spoil the movie --but Deadline.com says one of the smells is reportedly a spy baby's diaper. You've been warned.Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
SUGARLAND returned the stage last night for the first time since the tragic stage collapse last weekend at the Indiana State Fair. The show was in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the country duo asked the audience to observe a moment of silence for the five people who were killed in the accident. Sugarland is also planning a private memorial for the victims in Indiana. (Marino)
Severe weather caused more deaths at another outdoor music festival. Three people were killed and 70 more were injured when a storm blew through a music festival yesterday in Belgium. The winds and heavy rain pulled the roof off one of the stages, flattened tents, uprooted trees and damaged giant video screens. The three-day Pukkelpop festival was called off yesterday, and organizers are still deciding if the music will go on today and tomorrow. EMINEM, FOO FIGHTERS and THE OFFSPRING were all scheduled to perform. (Marino)
Health and Medical Briefs:
A new study has found that dogs can detect the smell of organic compounds that are linked to the presence of cancer in the human body.
Scientists had the dogs sniff test tubes that contained breath samples from patients who had lung cancer and some who did not. The dogs identified lung cancer in 71 out of 100 patients who had the disease.
Findings indicate that dogs may be a good "detection device," but researchers caution: "We've seen this happen enough to suggest there are compounds in the breath of patients with cancer that could provide an early warning about the presence of cancer in the body, but we still do not know exactly what those compounds are. We can't pick out what the dogs smell." (Maiman)Reality Round-Up:
MTV is launching new reality show this fall about a young woman who moves from a small town to Los Angeles so she can score a job in the fashion industry. Oh, and the star of the show weighs 324 pounds.
CHELSEA SETTLES is the 23-year-old star of the show called... “Chelsea Settles.” It will premiere in October. Racked.com says the series will follow her on interviews, meetings, social outings, and, of course, her workout training sessions as she tries to make it in an industry not known for being kind to the plus-sized people of the world. (Bartha)One toke over the line, dep't:
Here's a guy that probably needs to double-check the contact list in his phone.
CNews says an unidentified 37-year-old Canadian man is charged with calling the cops and asking to buy drugs. The guy, from British Columbia, allegedly asked for a hundred bucks worth of contraband. A police statement reads "It quickly became apparent to the officer that the male had dialed a wrong number and a meeting was arranged". Cops met up with the guy and made an arrest. Police say he was also carrying a concealed weapon. (Still)10 Most Unpopular Personalities:
