Veteran's Day Freebie:
On Veterans Day all Veterans and active duty military eat free at Applebee's. As they put it, "It's our way of saying thank you to our bravest neighbors."
It's just a J-O-B:
According to a new employment survey, one in three college graduates said which of the following is more important than salary?
a) Comprehensive health benefits
b) Continuing education courses
c) Rapid advancement opportunities
d) Access to Facebook
What do you think? Of COURSE it's "D."
The survey, conducted by networking giant Cisco, generated startling numbers. One third of respondents said that when considering job offers, salary was less important to them than access to social media sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Two thirds said they asked about social media policies during interviews, and more than half said they'd turn down jobs that banned online access.
Editor's note: Final evidence that youth is wasted on the young.
--A majority of respondents even went so far as to include social media as a universal human right, with 79 percent saying all persons should enjoy "life, liberty and the opportunity to post online constantly, sharing the excruciating minutiae of every aspect of every day. Forever." (Maiman)Looking at Logos:
Beer drinkers with a more upscale taste will have a new choice early next year. Anheuser-Busch will launch a new Bud Light blend in late January.
According to Dow Jones, Bud Light Premium will have a slightly sweeter taste with a higher alcohol volume.
FYI: It won’t be out in time for New Year celebrations, but if you’re looking for a reason to drink, it should be out in time for Chinese New Year. (Page)Fashion Emergency:
Gap Kids thinks little girls should wear black-sequined hot pants this winter. They’re showcasing the hot pants as one of its “Looks We Love” outfits on its website. And they recommend that young girls wear the hot pants with mini black booty shorts. Customers are already up in arms about it, posting negative comments on Gap Kids’ website: (Sez one commenter: “Who is the Gap designing for these days. Cast of "Jersey Shore"????).
And an army of outraged fashion bloggers have followed. Styleite.com says: “We’re not anti-sequined party shorts... we just think little girls should be encouraged to wear pants, tights, or some form of leg covering in the dead of winter.” (Bartha)
