Mother's Day is Sunday:
Quotable: "A mother is a person who, seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie." (TENNEVA JORDAN)
--"A mother is neither cocky, nor proud, because she knows the school principal may call at any minute to report that her child had just driven a motorcycle through the gymnasium." (MARY KAY BLAKELY)Mother's Day Background:
Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908 at a church service in Philadelphia, PA. ANNE JARVIS had the service done for her mother, who'd told her when she was much younger that she'd hoped there would be a day to commemorate all mothers --everywhere.
So, two years after her death, Anne and her friends began a national letter-writing campaign to get a holiday honoring mothers, and in 1914 Congress passed legislation designating the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.No matter how pinched the household budget, we're still going to do our best to keep Mom out of the kitchen for Mother's Day. Restaurants still expect it will be the busiest day of the year, according to the National Restaurant Association --about 38% of all Americans will dine out that day. In fact, many will dine out twice, celebrating with different people: The NRA reports that 59% celebrate at dinner, 51% at lunch or brunch, and 22% at breakfast.
Flowers are still the most popular gift, purchased by 66.8% of those celebrating. (Kaye)Hallmark says Mother's Day is the third-most popular card-buying holiday, with 162 million cards sold. That's because so many people use the occasion to celebrate relationships with sisters, aunts, and other important women in their lives, it. (Only Christmas and Valentine's Day are bigger.) And among Hispanics, Mother's Day is the single biggest card day of the year. (Kaye)
Redbook magazine's list of what Moms really want for Mother's Day:

9. An album made of all the photos floating around
8. Really good chocolate
7. A day of beauty at the salon
6. Popcorn in bed in the afternoon with a movie
5. Fresh flowers for every room in the house
4. An afternoon at the movies alone
3. To have the house to myself all day
2. To have breakfast lunch and dinner cooked for me
1. To stay up late and sleep late --without interruptionGrace notes:
You don't have to be a hip-hop mogul to have your own line of headphones. Country music superstar TIM McGRAW has partnered up with JBL for the Tim McGraw Artist Series. There are both on-ear and in-ear models, depending on how much you hate headphone hair. The on-ear version goes for 130-dollars, but the in-ear can be yours for about 50-bucks. Tim wanted to make sure the headphones were affordable, as opposed to the 500-dollar Beats By Dr. Dre. And, you're probably not going to get mugged for a Tim McGraw signature pair of headphones.
