What's the Buzz:
Today's the day Facebook goes public. The initial public offering (IPO) will be $38 a share, meaning if all the stock is sold, it will be worth $16 billion. That would make it worth more than Disney, Ford and Kraft Foods. It's the third-largest IPO in U.S. history.
Money Talks:
You've probably heard by now Verizon is dumping their unlimited data plans for new customers. There is a way to keep your unlimited data if you already have it, though.
According to CNet News, customers who hold onto their existing phone or agree to pay full price for any new devices when they renew their contract will be able to keep their unlimited data plans. (Page)Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
JENNIFER LOPEZ fans need not panic --the diva has no plans on ditching her plum gig on primetime television. An insider close to the mogul tells PEREZ HILTON that J-Lo wants to return to "American Idol" next season, preferably with a paycheck that's bigger than the 15-million BRITNEY SPEARS pulls in on "The X-Factor." Apparently super producer NIGEL LYTHGOE is pleased as punch his judge is making waves and knows the value of all this free publicity! (Lee)
Gossip Central:
ALEC BALDWIN is ready to retire. The actor tells Us Weekly magazine that he's going to let his fiancee HILARIA THOMAS support him when he's done with "30 Rock." Meanwhile, the couple is planning a wedding in New York City. (Myers)
Grace notes:
Guess who the richest musician in the world is. As of today, it's BONO, and he's worth more than Sir PAUL McCARTNEY. See, Bono was an early investor in Facebook, and today, the social networking site goes public with an offering on the New York Stock Exchange. Back in 2009, Bono's Elevation Partners investment firm bought 2.3-percent of the company for a cool 90-million dollars. Well, now that Facebook has been valued at more than 100-billion dollars, Bono's share is a tidy 1.5-billion dollars. That beats out Sir Paul who is reportedly worth 1.04-billion. (Marino)
Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places:
It's not unusual for a divorce to end in anger, but a woman in Superior, WI, took things to a new level this week with a traffic-stopping gesture at the expense of her ex-husband.
She put all his belongings out on the front lawn with signs reading "Free" and "X-Husband Sale."
Adding insult to injury, she slashed the tires of his SUV and spray-painted the truck with the word "Cheater" in block letters. (Photo) By the way, there's no law against spray-painting a vehicle in one's own yard.
The spectacle triggered enough buzz that motorists from all over town came by to check it out, even taking pictures.
Neighbors say it all started Tuesday when the couple's divorce was finalized. They'd been married since 1997. (Maiman) -
