Gossip Central: tabloids:
PIPPA MIDDLETON is cashing in on her new-found fame. Star magazine reports that the sister-in-law of PRINCE WILLIAM has been offered up to six figures to appear at club openings and at red carpet events.
The bad, the good and the amazing celebrity tippers from Star magazine:
--The bad: MIKE "The Situation" SORRENTINO and BRITNEY SPEARS leave next to nothing for their waitstaff
--The good: LINDSAY LOHAN tips her apartment building valets five bucks and MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY leaves a nice tip or more if you're a cute female and flirt with him
--JOHNNY DEPP and DREW BARRYMORE more than compensate their waiters with Drew once tipping 100 percent of a billDesigner Update:
Dress Barn might be getting a new name. Women's Wear Daily says that despite strong sales figures, there has been "a realization within the ranks that the 'Dress Barn' name doesn't exactly evoke the most flattering fashion image." A strong contender for the new name is Roz & Alli. That's based on a new label of dresses the store introduced this spring. (Bartha)
Rounding up the usual suspects:
Etiquette lesson of the day: Paying for things is generally considered polite, even if you're royalty and have diplomatic immunity.
This lesson was apparently lost on Saudi Princess MAHA al-SUDANI, who was caught last week trying to sneak out of a luxury hotel in Paris without paying her $7.5 million bill.
The hotel staff called the cops when al-Sudani tried to leave at 3:30 am with her 60-member entourage, who had taken over a 41-room floor of the Shangri-La since December.
When police arrived, al-Sudani was still loading her bags into a flotilla of limousines.
No charges were filed, probably thanks to her diplomatic immunity, but the hotel is grateful. The money in the end, saying it had "no problems" with clients, and "no unpaid bills."
The princess was eventually given refuge at a hotel owned by the emir of Qatar. (Maiman)Reality Round-Up:
Deadline.com says ABC has selected the 14 contestants for its show, "Glass House," despite the fact that CBS is suing the rival network because it claims the show is a rip-off of "Big Brother."
"Glass House" is currently scheduled to debut Mon, Jun 18, with a preview on ABC.com this Saturday. The 14 contestants are scheduled to move into the house next Monday, unless CBS can get an injunction to shut the rival production down first.Gaga gone country?:
Can you imagine LADY GAGA ditching her duct tape bra and platform heels for a pair of Wranglers? BRAD PAISLEY hopes it will happen and revealed to LARA SPENCER on "Good Morning America" that he'd love to record a duet with the "Mother Monster." (Lee)
I'm a Poll Man:
A new Pew Research Center poll shows the biggest number of independent voters in 75 years. Thirty-eight-percent of those polled by Pew classify themselves as independents, versus 32-percent who say they're Democrats and 24-percent who side with Republicans.
And among those who do side with a party, the extremes at both ends of the spectrum are growing.
Currently, 68-percent of Republicans call themselves conservative, up from 60-percent in 2000. Thirty-eight-percent of Democrats currently say they're liberal, up from 28-percent of the party in 2000. (Pacelli) -
