Need another sign of the impending apocalypse? KANYE WEST and KIM KARDASHIAN are making plans to start a family! A "friend" of the rapper tells Us Weekly the two are already talking marriage, double-K would gladly accept the proposal and the hip-hopper can't wait to see his lady carrying their child. (Lee)
Fashion Emergency:
Americans love buying cheap clothes. A new book called "Overdressed" says Americans spend less on clothing than ever before – about $17-hundred per household per year, but also own more clothes than ever before. The NY Post says main reason for the spending trend is an addiction to "fast fashion." Seasonal trends used to drive consumers to department stores about four times a year. That's been replaced by two-week product cycles, "promoting a get-it-now-or-its-gone buyer frenzy." (Bartha)
Reality Round-Up:
Another day, another reality show.
This time the Lifetime cable network has picked up a new series starring former singer LANCE BASS which is basically a celebrity yard sale each week.
Deadline.com says the show, called "Celebrity Sell-Outs," will attempt to package up a celebrity's memorabilia, costumes, furniture and tchotchkes, then auction them off for charity.Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
SLASH will be honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His is number 2,473, and on July 10th, the pavement plaque will be unveiled in front of the Hard Rock Cafe on Hollwood Boulevard. Slash is the first and only member of GUNS N' ROSES to be immortalized on The Walk. Right after the ceremony, Slash and singer MYLES KENNEDY will do an acoustic set inside the Hard Rock Cafe. Slash was born and raised in Hollywood, and he went to Hollywood High, which is just a few blocks from the Walk of Fame. (Marino)
Small town, small people:
In Sharon, PA, an agreement between union and management: Unionized cafeteria workers have won the right to eat expired food for free.
When officials at the Sharpsville Area School District told workers last year they could no longer eat the expired food for free, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees filed a grievance saying that "violated established past practice."
Management finally caved. Under the agreement, food items that are past their expiration date or reheated in a way that they can no longer be served to students may still be eaten for free by the cafeteria workers.
Workers still must pay for unexpired food they eat. (Maiman) -
