Fashion Emergency:
Target --the big box retailer famous for its affordable collections from high-end designers-- is aiming even higher now. As part of the release of "The Hunger Games" on DVD and Blu-Ray, Target will be selling limited edition, high-priced tagged "Hunger Games" collectible merchandise. And when we say limited edition, Target's not fooling around. Entertainment Weekly says that there will only be 100 of each item up for grabs for three days only on Target's website. The sale starts at midnight, August 18th. It will include:
--A 14-carat-gold reproduction of Katniss Everdeen's Mockingjay pin for $999.
--A replica of the leather jacket JENNIFER LAWRENCE wears in the movie for $349.
--A lithograph signed by Jennifer and her co-stars LIAM HEMSWORTH and JOSH HUTCHERSON for $699.
But not to worry. If you're on a budget, Target will also roll out a line of lower-priced Hunger Games merchandise that includes everything from backpacks to bed linens and life-sized cardboard cut-outs of the film's main characters. (Bartha)PINK is the new face of CoverGirl cosmetics. Pop music's reigning bad girl joins TAYLOR SWIFT, SOFIA VERGARA, DREW BARRYMORE, ELLEN DEGENERES and QUEEN LATIFAH as spokesperson for the iconic brand. People magazine says Pink will first promote a "bold new mascara innovation" and her ad campaigns will all celebrate "beauty with an edge." Expect to see her in ads starting next month. (Bartha)
Stars and their movies:
The Hollywood Reporter says "Hunger Games" star JENNIFER LAWRENCE will be getting a big bump from the half-million bucks she got to do that film --to a reported $10 million bucks for the next film in the series.
The show-biz tabloid says the $10 million figure is part salary, part bonuses and depending on how much the film makes at the box-office, it could be a lot more.
She's also locked in for the three sequels to "The Hunger Games" as well as co-stars JOSH HUTCHERSON and LIAM HEMSWORTH. "Catching Fire" will start filming next month in Georgia.Meanwhile, the Hitfix blog says Jennifer is also in talks to star in "The Ends of the Earth."
In the movie, she'd play the adopted daughter and future wife of an oil tycoon.
It's not as improbable as you think --it actually is based on a real-life story. Oil tycoon E-W MARLAND had a controversial love affair with his adopted daughter in 1926, following the death of his first wife, the pair were later married and she later became the First Lady of Oklahoma when Marland became governor in 1934.Grace notes:
Want TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS to peform at your wedding? Yeah, not gonna happen. Unfortunately, Amazon.com senior vice-president Brian Valentine thought it was a done deal. He was swindled by a phony concert promoter named Chad Christopher Lund who promised Brian that Petty would not only play at the wedding, he'd do it for 330-thousand dollars.
Brian was told to wire a 50-percent down payment of 165-thousand bucks to Chad's Bank of America account. It was all bogus, but the FBI got involved and Chad was arrested Thursday on felony fraud charges. But, there's a happy ending here. Brian lost his 165-thousand dollars, but he went through proper channels and when he got married on July 21st in Seattle, the entertainment for the reception was none other than... Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. (Marino) -
