The President at play:
PRESIDENT OBAMA declared yesterday to be "National Equal Pay Day," to note how much extra work women must perform to reach pay parity with men. In a statement, he said, "Women --who make up nearly half of our nation's workforce-- face a pay gap that means they earn 23-percent less on average than men do. That disparity is even greater for African-American women and Latinas ...On National Equal Pay Day, we recognize this injustice by marking how far into the new year women have to work just to make what men did in the previous one."
FYI: On average, female workers at the White House makeabout 13-percent less than their male counterparts. (Pacelli)Going Geek-dot-com /Caught in the Web:
TMI, Dep't: A survey conducted by CreditDonkey in March found that 52 percent of U.S. social media users say they have used Facebook while going to the bathroom, including 54 percent of men and 40 percent of women. (Kaye)
Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
Did Cupid make a surprise appearance on the set of "Rock of Ages?" Insiders tell the National Enquirer that JULIANNE HOUGH and TOM CRUISE had some "major chemistry" while making the rock musical and she's got a (wait for it...) "secret plan to get him to the altar!" Word is she's on the hunt for scripts that would be perfect for her and the action star to reconnect and thinks they'd be the "ultimate power couple." The "Dancing With the Stars" diva just called it quits with RYAN SEACREST, while TC has three marriages under his belt and is more than twice her age at 50-years-old! (Lee)
Fashion Emergency:
ROBERT DOWNEY, Jr, forgot to zip his fly! It was on the red carpet for the latest "Iron Man" premiere. People magazine says the very nattily attired star struck a pose in his VIVIENNE WESTWOOD tuxedo. The zipper is very clearly in the "down" position. The pants very clearly gaping open. Not very clear: if he's a boxers or briefs man. (Bartha)
Stars and their movies:
Wanna buy a piece of Hollywood memorabilia? Actor STEVE McQUEEN's motorcycle, a classic 1914 Indian Model F, will be auctioned off at the International Classic MotorCycle Show in Stafford, England, later this month. Indian motorcycles were America's first motorcycles, originally manufactured in 1901 by a company in Springfield, MA. That's a year before Harley-Davidson put out their first bike.
Experts claim the bike could go for close to $50-thousand dollars when it goes on the block.Taking everything much too seriously:
A British woman has opened a marriage proposal school.
34-year-old SAM SHEPPARD got the idea after her own boyfriend proposed. Sheppard says his proposal "felt more like being asked out for pizza." Her company is called The Proposal Expert. Sheppard claims she can teach any man how to do it right. And, she caters to any budget, from $15-dollars to $15-thousand dollars. (Still) -
