Horsing around:
The Preakness Stakes is this Saturday, the second race in the Triple Crown, and the latest race odds have been posted (Bovada Sportsbook):
--Orb 10/11 (favorite)
--Mylute 6/1
--Departing 13/2
--Goldencents 8/1
--Governor Charlie 10/1
--Itsmyluckyday 12/1
--Will Take Charge 12/1
--Oxbow 16/1
--Titletown Five 28/1 (longshot)
FYI: Orb has the #1 post position in the race, not a great place to start from if you look at race history. Since 1960, only one horse has managed the feat at the Preakness, Tabasco Cat in 1994. But Orb is such a favorite he could go on to take it and have a chance at the Triple Crown.
As you know, the last horse to win the Triple Crown was Affirmed, back in 1978.
The odds this morning are around 5-2 against Orb taking all three races.Grace notes:
The 2013 Billboard Music Awards will be handed out Sunday night. ABC will air the big event live from the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Unlike the Grammys and American Music Awards, Billboard picks the winners based on sales and radio airplay. TAYLOR SWIFT, FUN and MAROON 5 have all been nominated in 11 categories. Taylor and Maroon 5 are also competing for the big award of the night, Top Artist.
PRINCE will perform and get the Billboard Icon Award. MADONNA is also set to be there and pick up her Top Touring Artist award. She had the highest-grossing tour of the year. You'll see performances from Jennifer Lopez with Pitbull, Christina Aguilera, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Selena Gomez, The Band Perry, Kacey Musgraves and others. (Marino)Sucking up:
What's a girl to do if she simply can't afford a nice prom gown? Wear a star's old dress --of course! The NY Post's Page Six gossip column reports SARAH JESSICA PARKER, SOLANGE KNOWLES and "Rum Diaries" hottie AMBER HEARD all donated frocks to the Rent the Runway Dream Prom program for the ladies at East Rockaway High School. (Lee)
Dep't of Homeland Insecurity:
The U-S Marshals Service says it "lost" (sort of) two former participants in the federal Witness Security Program who were "identified as known or suspected terrorists."
A Justice Department report obtained by CNN says that numbers of "lost" terrorists "may not be complete and may continue to evolve."
Justice Department officials aren't saying specifically where the two individuals were, but admit that they left the U-S years ago, and left the program years ago as well. There's no information that they have ever returned to the United States.
Both were in the program because they had cooperated with U-S national security officials and their investigations. (Pacelli)London tabloids:
Most of us hit up Groupon for a bargain on pizza or carpet cleaning, but the discount site has much more to offer --like a chance to meet a real-life superstar! The UK's Daily Mail reports 60 fans of GWYNETH PALTROW's Goop website were offered the chance to fly to New York for a VIP event with the actress where they would get two nights lodging, spa treatments, dinner at a French restaurant and an autographed cookbook for just $2-thousand dollars. Sorry, but the offer sold out in record time. (Lee)
