Wednesday (06-19):
Today, a portion of revenue from over twenty five hundred restaurants across the country will go to Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey (The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund) as part of National Dine Out Day. To find a participating restaurant near you go to NationalDineOutDay.com.
Recall:
There's a massive pet food recall underway that affects owners of cats, dogs and ferrets. Natura is recalling everything produced more than one week ago, when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found salmonella in one of their products.
The recall includes all Innova, California Natural, EVO, Healthwise, Mother Nature and Karma branded dry pet food and biscuit treats with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014. If you own any of the food, you should throw it out immediately, and if your animal is showing signs of stomach distress, you should seek immediately treatment for your pet.
FYI: Natura is offering a full refund. Just print out the form on this website and follow the instructions. (Page)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
Gentlemen, start your engines --one of Hollywood's most successful women is looking for a date! People magazine reports BETTY WHITE has put her sweet self up on the auction block for a good cause. The package includes two round-trip tickets to Los Angeles, a one-night stay at the Ritz Carlton Marina del Rey and VIP tickets to the Morris Animal Foundation Gala of Hope --an Evening With Betty White and seats at her table. As of press time, the bidding was up to $57-hundred dollars and the money raised will go to help studies to advance veterinary medicine. (Lee)
Still no decision from KIM KARDASHIAN and KANYE WEST about what they decided to name their spawn... although the rumors continue. Yesterday, the MediaTakeOut blog said a nurse at Cedars-Sinai told them the K&K crew had settled on KAIDENCE DONDA WEST? But nothing official so far from Big Butt and her Bud.
Space, the Final Frontier:
You can now talk to extra-terrestrials.
A start-up called Lone Signal has begun sending submitted text messages in all languages to the Gliese 526 solar system. They have to be tweet-length, and you'll need a little patience; your message won't arrive for about 18 years, and it will take just as long to receive any extra-terrestrial response.
The first one is free, and then a group of four will set you back 99 cents.
The company is making use of the Jamesburg Earth Station in California's Carmel Valley to send the messages, and it hopes to expand its operations in the coming years to every hemisphere.
Along with the text messages, the company is sending up missives written in binary code that explain our understanding of physics. Also fair game? Animated GIFs. The first one going up is of a guy scratching his ear.Use it or lose it:
Met HANNAH ELLIS at Morning Show Boot Camp a couple of years ago when she was performing as an up-and-coming young country artist. This summer, she's hitting bigger places like the Gulf Coast Jam this September and says: "I would love to do some more shows.... My band and I have opened for LEE BRICE, JAKE OWEN and EMILY WEST... If you have any hook ups for opening spots or festivals let me know!" Check her out at HannahEllisMusic.com for more.
