Bastille Day is Sunday:
How to Throw a Last-Minute Bastille Day Party (Source: Yahoo.com)
Just like everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day, everyone is French on Bastille Day. The French national holiday on July 14th celebrate the storming of the Bastille prison in Paris in 1789, leading to the French Revolution. If you
want to throw together a last-minute Bastille Day bash:
--Decorations: The French flag is red white and blue too, so recycle some of your 4th of July swag. You can also place small French flags around the house.
--Food: Serve French food and wine, of course. Some simple dishes that everyone will enjoy:
--Cheese and fruit
--Quiche Lorraine,
--a crock pot of Beef Bourgignon
--Sandwiches made from French baguettes.
--Wine: Treat everyone to a Riesling from Alsace, a Vouvray from the Loire Valley or, if you really want the event to be special, French Champagne.
--Music: Download the French national anthem, the "Marseillaise." If you want to go traditional, EDITH PIAF's music and French folk songs work. You can also go with some DAFT PUNK. (Bartha)Fast Food:
Today is Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A restaurants. People who dress up like a cow will get a free meal at one of their 17-hundred restaurants; Partial cow attire will receive a free entree.

KATE MIDDLETON may seem like a down-to-earth girl, but make no mistake about it --she'll be giving birth in a suite fit for a princess! The NY Post's Page Six gossip column reports the maternity unit at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington features top chefs to whip up culinary delights, champagne, luxury toiletries and a recliner for PRINCE WILLIAM. The place costs $9,450 per-night with no complications and $3,318 for each extra night.
Meanwhile, CHAN SHINGADIA tells Us Weekly the prego brunette ordered vegetarian curry on several occasions in her "delicate condition" and his wife makes the dish just for her. The couple owns a shop --not a restaurant-- near the Middleton family home and began serving Kate after she smelled something "delicious" coming from upstairs. (Lee)Cops & robbers:
A guy in Ocala, Florida, walked into a convenience store and asked to fill out a job application.
Cops say, as staff members were distracted, job applicant ANTHONY THOMAS robbed the place by reaching into the cash register. He ran off with a wad of cash. But, cops didn't have any trouble tracking him down. The punk used his real name, address, and phone number on the job application. (Still)Grace notes:
JOHN MAYER is a mensch.US Weekly magazine says he was in a music shop in New York City last Friday with girlfriend KATY PERRY. They met 16-year-old JULIE FERMIN, who is an aspiring guitarist. John asked her which guitar in the store would she buy if she could? Julie pointed to one and said that she could never afford it. John and Katy took a few photos with Julie and her friends, and then they let the famous couple enjoy their time in the store. After they left, a salesperson came over to Julie and said that John had bought her the guitar she had her eye on. Naturally, Julie started screaming and crying. She said that she was (quote), "the luckiest and happiest person alive." (Marino)
Running with the Bulls:
There were three gorings this morning during the Running of the Bulls --the most since July 14, 2010.
This morning, the bulls from El Pilar were making their fifth appearance in Pamplona, Spain, and began very quickly, but a black bull split off from the pack and gored one runner, holding him on the horns for 20 long seconds. Two other runners were also gored and three injured during the run. There are two more days left for the Running with the Bulls this year --the annual Festival of San Fermin ends Sunday.
Here's today's Running of the Bulls "GoreBoard":
