Your Shutdown Update
Le Shutdown Fantastique --Day 14:
The government shutdown is two weeks old today. With Thursday's debt limit deadline looming, a breakthrough deal remains far off.
Attention: Any network looking to book someone to blame the Democrats for the current government shutdown, don't book JOHN McCAIN.
Ye Olde Maverick, John McCain, found his inner Maverick last Friday on when he told Fox News, 1) Sorry, the Republicans are to blame for the shutdown because they tried to shut it down by getting Obamacare repealed and 2) get over it, Obamacare isn't being repealed.
JOHN McCAIN did have one pretty funny line yesterday. In noting the absence of VP JOE BIDEN --a long time Senate member-- during all the debt limit and shutdown talks, he said, "Maybe we need to get Joe Biden out of the witness protection program." (Pacelli)Sucking the life out of the wire services:
MICHAEL DOUGLAS told a little white lie. The Oscar-winner revealed to SAMUEL L. JACKSON on the British show "This Morning" that he actually suffered from tongue cancer as opposed to throat cancer and fibbed because the treatments are very different. Apparently patients with tongue cancer often have their jaw and tongue removed, which could've put an end to Michael's career. Luckily, that didn't happen but he lost a lot of weight and is happy there's just a five-percent chance of the disease coming back. (Lee)
Chic Sh*t:
Hermes is making a $10-thousand dollar bicycle. Because they can, that's why. Next month, the French luxury brand will release two ultra-lightweight, carbon filter bike models, each handmade and available in three colors: charcoal, red, and white.
Hermès' told Women's Wear Daily that these are "real bike[s], not a decorative object." Features of the bikes include bull calf leather saddles, a shock-absorbing frame, belt-driven transmission, hydraulic disc brakes, and the option of eight or 11 gears integrated into the rear wheel hub. (Bartha)Ratings:
How did that CORY MONTEITH tribute episode do on "Glee" last Thursday?
The show had 7.4 million people watching, which was up 68 percent in total viewers week-to-week. It was also the series' highest-rated episode in the highly desirable 18-to-49-year-old age category as well.
Over on ABC, "Grey's Anatomy" was down seven percent from last week, and "Scandal," which debuted to great ratings, was down 14 percent in its second week.
It was worse on NBC --MICHAEL J FOX's show was down 29 percent from its premiere and "Sean Saves the World" was, too.Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
RIHANNA bought herself a hometown island paradise. TMZ says she laid out $22-million dollars for a villa in Barbados so she can spend more time with her family. SIMON COWELL is now her neighbor at One Sandy Lane, which is right down the beach from the super swanky Sandy Lane Hotel. They'll provide 24-concierge service and security for RiRi when she's in town.
FYI: Rihanna is renting a fancy loft apartment in New York City's Soho. It's a four bedroom duplex with a wraparound terrace. She's renting the space for $39-thousand dollars a month. (Marino)Trailer Park update:
Officials in Montana want to make eating roadkill easy for everyone.
The plan is to let drivers who accidentally kill animals print out roadkill permits online. The permits would then give folks the authority to harvest the meat for food. Authorities say a brand new smartphone app is also in the works for harvesting fresh kills on the go. (Still) -
