The Airlines:
The changes were expected; the FAA made it official: Air travelers will now be permited to use nearly every one of their electronic gadgets "during all phases of flight."
So no more powering off while the plane takes off or as it prepares to land. Now it's "gate to gate."
The exceptions: You can't use cell phones or tablets to make phone calls or send text messages during takeoff and landing, and you can't make cell phone calls at all during flight. That's an FCC regulation, so that agency would have to authorize the change. Also, all electronic devices with cellular or WiFi service must be set to "airplane mode" during that time.
A spokesman for flight attendants worried that these new guidelines could increase friction between passengers and flight attendants.
Editor's note: Nah, I'm sure Alec Baldwin will be very cooperative when the nice lady tells him he can't make a call during the flight.
--The day you can make a phone call on the plane is the day I stop flying. What a nightmare! Trapped in a metal tube with 140 people yapping at the top of their lungs to everyone and their mother about absolutely nothing that couldn't wait until they got on the ground. AMANDA BYNES recovery is going well. According to In Touch magazine, the actress is receiving one-on-one treatment at a specialized hospital and is even allowed to use her cell phone occasionally. She's not too thrilled with seeing her parents because she blames them for all her problems.
What's in SNOOKI's purse from Us Weekly magazine:
--Scrunchies
--sci-fi novels (yes, she reads books)
--mints because fiance JIONNI LaVALLE always tells her that her breath smellsReality Round-Up:
Add LISA VANDERPUMP to the list of "Real Housewives" stars who've got their own signature booze.
BETHENNEY FRANKEL (of "Real Housewives of NY") has arguably got the most famous brand with her "Skinny Girl" drinks. But now Lisa has joined the fray with her own wine label, LVP Sangria.
The Hollywood Reporter says there'll be two Spanish wines (regular red and her personal favorite, pink sangria), available in January.Chic Sh*t:
If you're over the whole "slutty costumes" thing, just hold on a sec... somebody has gone and made The Slutty Wallet. The $10-dollar wallet attaches to your thigh, garter-belt style. It's small, but big enough to carry your I-D, cell phone and lipstick. If you have any upcoming "slutty" festivities in the works (Sexy Santas! Just eight more weeks until Christmas!) you can pick up The Slutty Wallet at RickysNYC.com. (Bartha)
Earth911.com's tips for a Green Tailgate:
1. Carpool to the game
2. Choose locally grown (or prepared) or organically farmed food with the least amount of packaging
3. Get a keg instead of multi-packs of beer (and fill it with organic beer if you can)
4. Use a propane grill (the Environmental Impact Assessment Review finds that charcoal uses 998 kg of CO2 –-almost three times more than propane, which uses 348 kg of CO2)
5. Use reusable tableware or at least make sure the disposable kind is biodegradable
6. Use the stadium recycling bins or...
7. Set up a recycling bin in your trunk to bring it back to your own
8. Hit up thrift stores or get crafty with what you have for spirit wear, instead of buying new (Kaye) -
