Political Racket /Dirty Tricks:
For the first time in our history, more members of Congress are millionaires than not.
An analysis of financial disclosure forms by the Center for Responsive Politics reveals that more than half of the members of Congress qualify. Specifically, 268 of the 534 current members had a net worth of at least $1 million in 2012, up from 257 members (48 percent) the previous year.
DARRELL ISSA, who made a mint selling car alarms, is in the top spot at around $464 million. But before you feel too poor, consider the plight of California House Republican DAVID VALADAO. He's in the last spot (again) with a net worth of a negative $12 million, thanks to loans for his family's dairy farm.
USA Today and CNBC note a few other details:
--Real estate is the No. 1 investment vehicle for members of Congress
--GE is the most popular stock pick for those who play the markets, with 71 members owning shares
--Democrats, with a median net worth of $1.04 million, are richer than Republicans, at $1 million.
--Also, senators are generally wealthier than their House counterparts, with a median net worth of $2.7 million, compared with $896,000. (Maiman)Sucks to be you:
Update: We told 'ya yesterday that LINDSAY LOHAN Tweeted out an APB for her missing laptop in Shanghai, but there's just one minor issue --the social media post was actually made by the thieves! Sources say Lilo is the victim of an extortion plot, the computer contains private emails from pals like WOODY ALLEN and LADY GAGA as well as a few X-rated photos. (Lee)
Casting Call:
With PAUL WALKER's recent death, producers of some of the movies he was already cast in have been scrambling to find replacements.
--Daily Variety reports "Homeland" star RUPERT FRIEND will be replacing Walker in the upcoming film, "Agent 47," the sequel to the TIMOTHY OLYPHANT film, "Hitman." The original film was based on a video game, and originally scheduled to film in February. Now it appears the film will go ahead.
--JAMES MARSDEN could be taking Paul's place in the upcoming movie "The Best of Me," being made from the NICHOLAS SPARKS best-seller. Deadline reports negotiations are underway to have him star with MICHELLE MONAGHAN in the film about two former high school sweethearts reunited after 20 years apart, when they return to their small town for the funeral of the beloved friend.Grace notes:
FLAVOR FLAV is in trouble again. New York's WNBC-TV says the rapper was caught speeding and driving without a license yesterday morning on the way to his mother's funeral. Police clocked him doing 79 in a 55-miles-per-hour zone, and also found some marijuana in the car. Flavor was released on an appearance ticket so he could get to the funeral. He has a court date on January 28th. Flavor already had 16 suspensions on his license. (Marino)
