Rage against the machines:
About a third of the population believes machines will rise up and take over the world, according to a British survey.
Two thousand people were polled about their hopes and fears when it comes to robotics. One-in-ten believe RoboCop-style police officers will be patrolling the streets within a decade. 11-percent say they wouldn't mind raising a robotic child, instead of a human one. 25-percent of those surveyed think robots will soon develop emotions. And, 42-percent expect to see teachers being replaced by droids in the near future.
MARTIN SMITH, professor of robotics at the University of Middlesex, supervised the study. He says, "Though many fear their jobs will be taken over by machines, it is more likely that robots will be used as assistants." (Still)Idle gossip & unconfirmed rumors:
KALEY CUOCO-SWEETING isn't taking any chances in her new home. In Touch Weekly reports the "Big Bang Theory" beauty hired a Feng Shui expert to cleanse all the bad energy out of the $5.5-million-dollar property she purchased from KHLOE KARDASHIAN and LAMAR ODOM. (Lee)
Wanna own KEITH RICHARDS' car? The LA Times says his 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT will hit the auction block in Monaco on May 9th. It could go for as much as $347-thousand dollars. Keith sold the car in 1986, and it has around 25-thousand miles on it. (Marino)
Broadcast, cable and video news:
FOX has decided to go ahead with "Gotham," which will be the back story behind "Batman," focusing on Commissioner Gordon back when he was a detective in the city.
The series will star "Southland's" BEN McKENZIE (as Detective Gordon), with an all-star cast including "Sons of Anarchy's" DONAL LOGUE as Detective Harvey Bullock, JADA PINKETT SMITH as crime boss Fish Mooney, and many others including villains The Penguin, Catwoman and the Riddler when they were young along with a pint-sized Bruce Wayne and his much-younger butler, Alfred.Models:
TYRA BANKS is said to be furious that she was rejected for the recent Victoria's Secret TV fashion special. RadarOnline.com reports that the 40-year-old supermodel " "was dying to appear on the runways as a surprise in the most recent CBS Victoria Secret Fashion Show," which aired in December." She was allegedly rejected by both Victoria's Secret and the network, and now she's threatening to never to work with Victoria's Secret again."
Tyra was one of the original Victoria's Secret "Angels" from 1997 to 2005. The report says "Tyra's feelings were hurt because the excuse she was given is that the audience likes to see the newest models, not the 'veterans,' on the runway during the Victoria's Secret fashion show. (Bartha)The Extended First Family at play:
First Lady MICHELLE OBAMA's brother is out of a job. CRAIG ROBINSON was fired Sunday as head men's basketball coach at Oregon State after going 94-105 in six seasons, with no NCAA tournament appearances. The Beavers went 16-16 last season and are losing all five starters from that team.
Robinson has three more years left on his current contract and it's rumored that the school will owe him over $4-million-dollars.
