Filling a need:
Teenage boys are discovering that they don't have to clean cars and mow lawns to make a few extra bucks.
An enjoyable and perhaps more lucrative alternative: baby-sitting.
The Wall Street Journal looked at a number of families who have entrusted young children to the care of male baby sitters --many who couldn't care less about old notions of gender roles-- and the American Red Cross says it's noticed an uptick in the number of boys taking its baby-sitting classes.
But gender bias still exists. Experts say that male sitters tend to be hired to serve as caretakers for active boys rather than to watch over girls, and one 22-year-old sitter said he was surprised at how much harder it was for him to get jobs than it was for his female roommate. "Many people are resistant to having a young man come into their homes to watch their kids," he says. (Maiman)Like you really care:
The entire world loves JENNIFER LAWRENCE, except for LINDSAY LOHAN. Sources tell Star magazine the rehabbed redhead had a big, fat crush on the Oscar-winner's boyfriend, NICHOLAS HOULT, back in 2010, but he wouldn't give her the time of day. Unfortunately, Lilo is still bitter about the situation, presumably because she called him "nonstop." (Lee)
Models:
ANGELINA JOLIE will be gracing the cover of Elle magazine worldwide next month. The "Maleficent" star will appear in a 16-page editorial, with photos by Saint Laurent's head designer HEDI SLIMANE. In the upcoming June issue, Angelina compares her large family to being in a fairy tale, saying she never thought she'd have children, be in love or meet the right person. She calls her relationship with BRAD PITT "beautifully crazy." (Bartha)
Survivor: real life:
A pilot lost control and crashed into a Colorado home, then realized it was a house he used to live in.
Pilot and former fireman BRIAN VEATCH crashed into the unoccupied house, then tried to put out the fire with a garden hose. At first, he didn't recognize the place. But, a neighbor showed up and reminded him he used to own the home.
The plane Veatch was flying was towing one of those giant aerial banners across the sky. This one was for Geico insurance. It was a miracle he escaped uninjured since those types of planes are not equipped with parachutes.
The Federal Aviation Administration is still investigating the incident. (Still)Grace notes:
KATY PERRY's "Prismatic" world tour started up last night at the Odyssey Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Billboard.com says the show is an explosion of costumes and color, and, oh yeah, Katy sings a bit too. She posted the set list on Instagram before the concert, and one big surprise is a mashup of Katy's "International Smile" with MADONNA's "Vogue." You get just about the entire "Prism" album, including a full Cleopatra number for "Dark Horse." (Marino)
