Posturing, Posing Polling and Press Releases:
All the latest world turmoil seems to be helping Republicans, as we approach the November midterm elections. A new Gallup poll shows that the GOP has expanded its historical edge over Democrats as being better able to protect the U.S. from international terrorism and military threats.
At this point, 55-percent of Americans choose the GOP on this issue, while 32-percent still side with Democrats. That's the widest Republican advantage in Gallup's history of asking this question since 2002. (Pacelli)What's the Buzz (pun intended):
BEN & JERRY's has jumped onto the marijuana bandwagon with all four feet, and will be releasing a new, stoner-friendly flavor Sep 15 reportedly inspired by singer BOB MARLEY called... "Mary Jane, Satisfy My Bowl."
7Deadlymag.com reports the new flavor "mixes a creamy banana base with caramel and cookie swirls with a helping of milk chocolate peace signs." The ice cream celebrates the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley's "Legend" album and the proceeds reportedly will benefit the Marley Family's 1LoveFoundation.
The bad part --at least for marijuana fans-- at this point it's not scheduled to be produced in the US, but will only be available in the UK.Gossip Central: tabloids with Cory Myers:
NICK CANNON's "MARIAH" tattoo will take almost as long to get rid of as his wife! According to In Touch magazine, the "America's Got Talent" host already started the laser process to remove MARIAH CAREY's name from his back but it will take about a year to totally remove it. (Myers)
Fashion Emergency:
Etsy.com has banned its sellers from marketing any products with the name or the logo of the Washington Redskins. The decision by the e-commerce site for crafters and vintage items follows the decision by the U-S Patent and Trademark Office to cancel the team's trademarks. Etsy informed its sellers that "the opinion of the minority group itself [carries] the most weight in determining whether the mascot is disparaging. In no uncertain terms, Native American groups have consistently advocated and litigated that the term "redskin(s)" is disparaging and damaging to Native Americans. Therefore, it will no longer be permitted in our marketplace."
Racked.com says sellers on Etsy will be able to sell items that use the team's colors and mention Washington, DC, as long as they don't include the team name or logo. (Bartha)TV Briefs:
Anyone for binge-watching "Gilmore Girls"?
Daily Variety sez Netflix has picked up the rights to all seven season of "The Gilmore Girls" --all 153 episodes-- which will be available (in the US only) beginning Oct 01. The series ran from 2000-06 on the WB network and the 2006-07 season on The CW network.Your Body:
Fat-shaming does nothing to help fat-losing... it just makes fat people fatter. That's the conclusion of a new study from University College London. After analyzing survey data, the Washington Post says people who experience discrimination because of their weight do more "comfort eating." That's because your body's stress response increases appetite. Discrimination also makes people feel less confident about taking part in physical activity, so they avoid it. The study was published in the medical journal Obesity. (Bartha)
