The Stock Market:
Another bad day at the stock market Friday, with the Dow Jones average dropping 115 points, the S&P average was also off 1.2 percent. But technology stocks were hit the hardest, as the NASDAQ dropped 2.3 percent. It was worst week for the market since May, 2012.
The Internet:
Twitter use has been flat all year, and the Raymond James 3Q14 Internet Consumer Survey released this week looks into why. Among the reasons why consumers don't use Twitter,
--52 percent said they view it as a waste of time;
--36 percent don't see the point; and
--36 percent receive news and information from other Web sites.
As for the active tweeters and readers: some 57 percent said that staying up to date was the most popular reason for using Twitter. Following celebrities, with 33 percent of the vote, came in at number two, and socializing with friends and family at 33 percent. (Kaye)Real (big) estates:
Looks like GEORGE CLOONEY and his wife AMAL, have picked up a house on a private, 5.5 acre island outside London where they can stay when they're not at one of their other homes.
Daily Variety reports the new place has a mere 8,949 square feet, with 10 bedrooms, eight full and two half baths at Sonning-on-Thames, England. The price was not disclosed but is estimated at around $12.1 million bucks, and includes a compact fitness complex includes a gym, caldarium, shower space and steam room on the first floor (there are three). There's also a raised vegetable garden, a double greenhouse (with automated ventilation), a circular, brick-built structure for yoga (or whatever) and a private boat house.
George also owns his place in Lake Como, Italy, as well as a beachside place in Cabo San Lucus next to CINDY CRAWFORD and RANDE GERBER, and a gated compound in a canyon in Studio City, CA, that also has a seven-thousand square-foot main house as well.Like you really care:
Is ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER ready to give up his beastly Hummer for an economy car? TMZ.com features photos of the action star stuffing himself into a three-wheeled Toyota I-ROAD in Paris that's completely electric and seats two people in tandem. (Lee)
KIM KARDASHIAN is worth a whopping $140-million-bucks, but still can't afford a bra. The UK's Daily Mail spotted the bootylicious brunette heading out for dinner with KANYE WEST last Saturday night in a sheer charcoal dress that seriously showed off (ahem) "the girls." (Lee)
Movies that will suck:
Do we need another "Joe Dirt" movie?
Apparently DAVID SPADE thinks we do. He's gotten together with a writer and the Hollywood Reporter says the sequel will be put out on Sony's digital streaming service, Crackle.
"Joe Dirt 2" will reportedly pick up where the 2001 film left off, with the mullet-headed redneck custodian getting into more misadventures. -
