Asleep at the switch:
The United States Postal Service has apologized to a woman after mistakenly making her think her son was dead.
JASON GERLING of Chaska, Minnesota, noticed that he was only receiving junk mail. At the same time, his mother JAN GERLING mailed him a letter but it was returned to her with the words "deceased" stamped in red. Jan says, "It almost caused me to have a heart attack."
It turns out another local family went to the post office and asked that the mail be stopped for their deceased loved one, and wires got crossed at the post office.
The Gerlings say they'd like to see the post office require a death certificate in the future to make sure this doesn't happen to someone else. Currently, a death certificate is not required to stop delivery. (Still)Grace notes:
LADY GAGA just bought a man cave. The New York Daily News says the $24-million dollar compound in Malibu, near Zuma Beach has a secret passage in the living room. On the other side is an authentic 1960's bowling alley, two basketball free-throw machines, and a whole bunch of arcade games. There's also a home theater in there and an underground tunnel that leads to an 800-bottle wine cellar. There are also five bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. The home was previously owned by Warner Brothers executive DAN ROMANELLI, which explains the "Batcave." He came up with all the cool gadgets for the first few "Batman" movies. Gaga will probably invite her current boyfriend, actor TAYLOR KINNEY to come live with her. Talk about a lucky guy! (Marino)
Gossip Central:
TORI SPELLING is gifting hubby DEAN McDERMOTT with a rather insensitive birthday gift. According to Star magazine, the mom of four is giving Dean a vasectomy! Tori is happy with her family as is but more importantly, she doesn't want her fertile, cheating husband impregnating anyone else! Happy Snipday!
Editor's note: On my first anniversary, my now ex-husband gave me a flannel nightgown that had a turtleneck and went down to the floor. Sexy. Did I mention he's my EX husband? (Myers)Fast Food:
Consumerist.com describes some of the offerings Pizza Hut's international outlets are testing. They might be a tough sell here.
In Korea, the company has a star-shaped pizza. It has the usual pizza toppings, but the dough "points" of the star are dessert turnovers with cranberries and cream cheese or apples, cinnamon, nuts, and cream cheese. So it has toppings like shrimp, squid, sausage, bacon, and steak in the main area, and dessert orbiting on the outside.
In the United Arab Emirates, it's a crust stuffed with red or green jalapeño peppers. The standard version of this pizza has chili sauce instead of tomato sauce, spicy nacho cheese, and more sliced jalapeños on top. (Tums are extra. --Kaye)The White House:
A man was taken into custody Wednesday after jumping the fence on the North Lawn of the White House, just after 7 p.m. last night. He was identified by the Secret Service as 23-year-old DOMINIC ADESANYA of Bel Air, MD.
Video of the incident shows Adesanya --wearing a dark shirt and white gym shorts-- on the lawn outside the White House being yelled at by Secret Service officers. He briefly lifted his shirt to show his chest before a pair of Secret Service dogs rushed to him and pounced.
He's then seen struggling with the animals, landing repeated punches and kicks. Eventually, a Secret Service officer grabbed him to lead him away. (Pacelli) -
