Engaged:
BRISTOL PALIN has landed a real-life hero. The daughter of SARAH "Pitbull" PALIN revealed on Instagram that she's engaged to Sgt. DAKOTA MEYER and believes she's "truly the luckiest girl in the world." Her dashing groom is a former U.S. Marine and only the third living recipient of the Medal of Honor which he received in Afghanistan. He reportedly proposed to her during a RASCAL FLATTS concert on Friday night and says he's just as excited about heading to the altar as she is. (Lee)
Anniversaries:
BABE RUTH signed with the Yankees for $75-thousand (1932). At the time, it was the highest salary ever paid to a ballplayer. When told he was making more money than the President of the United States, he said, "Well, I had a better year than he did."
The President at play:
Some pretty good yuks Saturday night from PRESIDENT OBAMA at the annual Gridiron Club Dinner in Washington:
--"HILLARY (CLINTON) has a server in her house! I didn't even know you could have one of those. I am so far behind."
--(VP JOE BIDEN) rubs my shoulders, too... It's not bad. It feels pretty good. I don't let him give me a pedicure, but..."
--(WI GOP Gov. SCOTT WALKER) punted on the question of evolution, which I do think is a problem. I absolutely believe in the theory of evolution --when it comes to gay marriage."
--"You don't diminish your office by taking a selfie. You do it by sending a poorly written letter to Iran. Really. That wasn't a joke."
--"If I did not love America, I wouldn't have moved here from Kenya." (Pacelli)On, off and way-off Broadway:
STEPHEN SONDHEIM is not a big fan of LADY GAGA. The composer told the Times of London that she was (quote), "a travesty" singing "The Sound Of Music" at the Academy Awards. He said (quote), "It was ridiculous, as it would be from any singer who treats that music in semi-operatic style. She had no relationship to what she was singing. What people liked was her versatility."
But, Stephen does like RADIOHEAD because of their harmonies. He said (quote), "For me music has always been about harmonies. Most pop music today isn't: it's about rhythm, sonic values, performance and visceral reaction."
And, his favorite current musical? (quote), "'Honeymoon in Vegas' --The essence of the musical theatre I grew up on." (Marino)Stars and their movies:
LILY JAMES, the star of "Cinderella," is currently filming a six-part, BBC production of "War and Peace" in Lithuania. She'll star as Natasha in the series. Lily, who's 25 years old, is having a nice career, having also done "Wrath of the Titans," "Fast Girls" and two seasons of "Downton Abbey" as Lady Rose MacClare.
Small town, small people:
Plug-in's, sprays, stick-ups, insense, candles, you name it, it's out there to get rid of smells. But a man in Iowa did everything he could to get rid of the stench that started to take over his apartment.
RAMON ROJAS of Cedar Rapids opened windows and even got the carpet cleaned. Nothing worked. Turns out the smell was coming from the apartment below Ramon's. The woman who lived there had died. Police estimate that she was dead from 10 to 14 days, hence the strong smell.
Building owners say the structure will eventually get a thorough cleaning, which should get rid of the problem. But, Rojas says he's not sticking around that long. (Myers/Still) -
