The President at play:
PRESIDENT OBAMA is kicking off a visit to Kenya and Ethiopia, accompanied by 20 members of Congress, including one Republican --AZ Congressman JEFF FLAKE-- who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee on African affairs. Flake has been an ally of the Obama administration on restoring diplomatic ties with Cuba and is one of a handful of Republicans who are still on the fence about the nuclear deal with Iran.
The president returns to Kenya --his father's birthplace-- for the first time as president. He will headline the Global Entrepreneurship Summit and meet with Kenyan President UHURU KANYATTA.
He departs for Ethiopia on Sunday, becoming the first sitting president to visit the country. He plans to give a speech to the African Union. (Pacelli)What's Poppin':
GLORIA ALLRED is excited this morning after the California Supreme Court gave her the go-ahead to grill BILL COSBY over various sexual assault cases in the civil lawsuit filed by her client, JUDY HUTH. She's the one who claims that Cosby sexually assaulted her at the Playboy Mansion more than 40 years ago when she was just 15 years old.
TMZ.com says Gloria wants to question Cosby about all the women, which now numbers 37, and would also be sending him a notice today, demanding she get his deposition within the next 30 days.Bottom feeding:
Planning a wedding is rarely easy and can be very expensive --especially when a TV network won't pay for the festivities! AMY DUGGAR from "19 Kids and Counting" just got engaged to DILLON KING, who whined on Instagram that they were "very excited about having the opportunity to share our life experience, but the situation has all changed" since TLC passed on the opportunity to air the festivities.
The dashing groom encouraged fans to "voice their opinion," but that may have backfired --a few folks chimed in to point out that they weren't famous and weddings should be private. (Lee)Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
So, CHRIS BROWN never got out of the Philippines! TMZ.com said his plane reportedly took off Wednesday night for Hong Kong, but it was stopped on the runway and had to turn around. This is all over a concert Chris was supposed to play in Manila on New Year's Eve. He got paid a million dollars but never showed up. The promoter has been demanding a refund so when Chris did a concert in Manila this week, the promoter asked the government to prevent him from leaving until he pays up. So, now he's stuck in a hotel in Manila. Chris Instagrammed a video of himself begging to be allowed to leave, and he reportedly even asked PRESIDENT OBAMA for help. (Marino)
Everyday heroes:
A 66-year-old Alabama man who fell down inside his home and broke his hip is lucky to be alive.
Officials say TOMMY HOPE of Hope Hull scooted around the floor of his home and drank rainwater from a bucket for 10-days. Luckily, Tommy's mail carrier, CISSY CARTWRIGHT, noticed he hadn't picked up his mail in a while, so she decided to investigate. She found him dehydrated on the floor and dialed 9-1-1. Hope suffered multiple broken bones and is in the hospital recovering.
Mail carrier Cartwright has been nominated for the Postmaster General's Hero Award for saving the man. (Still) -
