National Christmas Tree lighting tonight:
Tonight's the night for the 93rd annual National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
The National Park Foundation and National Park Service sponsors the event which begins at 5 pm, and PRESIDENT OBAMA is scheduled to throw the switch and light the tree on the Ellipse at the White House. He'll be joined by BETTY REID SOSKIN, who --at 94 years young-- is the oldest active ranger in the National Park Service. She works in Richmond, CA, where she gives talks and leads tours for the city's Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historical Park.
"The Muppets" MISS PIGGY is also scheduled to make a special appearance as well.
"I am so thrilled to be part of the National Christmas Tree Lighting, I hear this year's tree will be almost as bright, shiny and dazzlingly beautiful as moi!" she said. She'll join FALL OUT BOY, ANDRA DAY, TORI KELLY, TROMBONE SHORTY, CROSBY, STILLS & NASH, ALOE BLACC, KELSEA BALLERINI and the JOYOUS STRING QUARTET, who are all scheduled to perform at the tree lighting as well.
FYI: For broadcast times, check local listings or the National Christmas Tree Lighting website.
PS: The annual lighting the National Christmas Tree was started by CALVIN COOLIDGE, in 1923. The White House Historical Association and the National Park Foundation also team up each year to sell the 2015 White House Christmas Ornament, with $2 from each ornament going to the National Park Foundation. On, off and way-off-Broadway:
The misery is about to end for "Les Miserables." Playbill.com says the current Broadway revival of the musical will close on September 4th, 2016. A new U.S. tour begins in 2017. ALFIE BOE will stay on as Jean Valjean through February 28th with JOHN OWEN-JONES closing out the role for the remainder of the run. This new production will have played 1,026-performances in just over two-and-a-half years. (Marino)
Fashion Emergency:
Everyone wants AMY SCHUMER's underwear! Mashable.com says that since Amy's nearly-naked topless Pirelli Calendar portrait was released earlier this week, there's been a run on the little bit of lingerie the comedian was wearing. Amy posed in bottoms by the United Kingdom lingerie brand Mimi Holliday. There are still a few of the brand's "Puffin Classic Knicker" left for $24.09 (U.S. dollars) But the matching bra Amy was seen wearing in the Pirelli calendar video is sold out. (Bartha)
Bad luck:
A Florida woman became seriously ill after having breast augmentation surgery.
ANN ZIEGENHORN of Shalimar has been having mental symptoms resembling Alzheimer's disease for the past four years. On top of that she experienced sudden weight gain, loss of vision, and severe pain. A doctor finally found the cause: mold growing inside her breast implants.
Ziegernhorn's diagnosis came from Dr. SUSAN KOLB, who wrote a book on the dangers of implants. Kolb says, "Eventually everybody will become ill from their breast implants, unless they die sooner from something else." The doctor is not against implants, but says women should get them replaced every eight to fifteen years. (Still) -
