Anniversaries:
30 years ago, ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER married MARIA SHRIVER (1986). Coincidentally, the very same day, the nuclear melt-down occurred at the nuclear reactor at Chernobyl, Russia. Maria and Arnold's melt-down occurred much later.
Let's hear it for Bison!:
The U.S. House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a bill today that will make the American Bison the "National Mammal" of the United States. The bill was passed by the Senate in December. Popular Science says the bill is the result of a five-year campaign by conservation and Native American groups to get some recognition for the animals. The American bison --as a species-- is more than 10-thousand years old. That makes them a relic from the Ice Age. (Bartha)
Sheer stupidity:
If you find it hard to fall asleep when you're away from home, you might want to try staying at the MOXY hotel in Phoenix, Arizona.
The inn --part of the Marriott chain-- has reportedly started offering guests bedtime stories over the phone. A user on the website Reddit posted his experience at the hotel, which is reportedly "geared towards millennials." Other features include a check-in desk that doubles as a bar, and Netflix service and guitars in every room. Plus, all the doors have signs that read: "Disturb." (Still)Trendspotting:
A top trend for your toes this summer --rainbow sandals. Glamour magazine says bright summer sandals with a full spectrum of colors and embellishments are all the rage from designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Dolce & Gabbana and Chloe. Best paired with equally-trendy bright yellow dresses, off-the-shoulder tops and denim shorts. (Bartha)
Trade Secrets:
Coffee lovers have a new reason to rejoice as Starbucks just released their very own set of emojis. Cosmopolitan magazine reports fans of the java giant can now text photos of a cake pop, unicorn sipping a Frappuccino, barista giving a toast and more! The emoji keyboard is free through the App Store and Google Play. (Lee)
