Pet Patrol:
The Washington Postreports DONALD TRUMP will be the first president in many years --150 to be exact-- who comes to the White House without a pet.
MARTIN VAN BUREN had tiger cubs, THOMAS JEFFERSON and TEDDY ROOSEVELT had bears, and CALVIN COOLIDGE had a pygmy hippopotamus! Captured in Liberia, he was given to Coolidge by HARVEY SAMUEL FIRESTONE in 1927. Most of the other Presidents have either had dogs or cats.
To find out more about presidential pets, check out the Presidential Pet Museum --yes, there is one-- HERE. The collection includes a life-size bronze statue of Barney Bush (GEORGE W. BUSH's beloved Scottie); vintage Socks the cat toys and shirts and more.Ho, ho ho:
Holiday Nativity scenes are getting more creative every year.
Blogger MARK OESTREICHER has been posting photos of bizarre Nativity scenes for the past few years. This year's favorite is one he calls the "Hipster Nativity." It features MARY and JOSEPH taking selfies with BABY JESUS while the THREE WISE MEN arrive on Segways bearing gifts from Amazon.com. Mark's blog currently features around 70 different Nativity creations. The collection is getting a lot of online attention, both positive and negative. (Still)Sending holidaygifts to the troops:
Let's talk 2016 Holiday shipping cut off dates --you've got less than a week to get that package off to that serviceman or woman overseas --and you'll have to send it First-Class or Priority Mail (letters/cards and packages) by this Friday, Dec 09.
Locked Up for their own good:
A passenger aboard a New Jersey train yanked the emergency brakes to retrieve a cellphone.
Transit officials say ERIC JONES dropped his phone on the tracks while moving between cars. That's when he reportedly pulled the emergency stop so he could retrieve the device. The stop caused delays on several commuter lines during morning rush hour. Officials say Jones exhibited "reckless behavior" and could have injured hundreds of passengers. He's charged with interfering with transportation and defiant trespass. (Still) -
