Sucking the life out of the wire services:

MADONNA --now 58 years old-- says she wants to adopt a couple of more kids.
The BBC reports Madonna flew into the country of Malawi on Tuesday, after her appearance at the Women's March in Washington, and appeared in court in the Malawian capital of Lilongwe to make her application. She already adopted has two children from that country, DAVID BANDA in 2006 and MERCY JAMES in 2009.
She also has two other children --LOURDES and ROCCO-- from her previous relationships, although Rocco now lives in London with her ex-husband, GUY RITCHIE.
A spokesman in Malawi said the court will make its decision next week.

Today's police blotter:

A lady in North Carolina pulled over to help a child and was nearly carjacked.
Carteret County deputies say the unidentified woman was driving at night when she saw what she thought was a child sitting in the middle of the road. When she pulled over, she noticed the "child" was just a mannequin. That's when two men wearing hoodies ran up and tried to climb in her car. She sped away and called police. Police are still looking for the suspects. (Still)

Diseases and Dat Boid Flu:

The number of Americans who die from diabetes is much higher than previously believed, according to a new study. The research, based on federal government data, found that diabetes causes 12 percent of deaths in the United States. WebMD.com says that would make diabetes the third-leading cause of death after heart disease and cancer. The researchers found that Americans with diabetes have about a 90 percent higher death rate than those without diabetes. They noted that diabetes as the "underlying cause of death" had been significantly underreported in the United States. (Bartha)
