The next update for Pokémon Go is scheduledfor later this month, and some people are suggesting there'll be aValentine's Day tie-in which might include some love-themed action in the clothing department or updates in the "Friendship" element which was introduced in the early game versions.
Meanwhile, a 60-year-old grandfather was shot and killed by a security guard in Virginia last Thursday while playing Pokémon Go.
JIANSHENG CHEN was reportedly sitting in his van, which was parked outside a community center about a mile away from his house in Chesapeake, VA.
Chen's attorney said he reportedly did not speak fluent English, and was in the area because the community center was tagged as a Pokémon gym in the game. NBC News says there apparently was a disagreement, after which the guard pulled out his weapon and fired between five and 10 shots directly through the driver's front windshield of the van. Mr. Chen, who was unarmed was killed instantly. A lawyer for the security guard said "a vehicle can be used as a weapon."Fast Food:
Forget about flowers, chalky candy hearts or perfume for Valentine's Day --the good folks at McDonald's are fast-forwarding to St. Patrick's Day! Fox News reports the fast food giant is ramping up their menu for the holiday by adding a Chocolate Shamrock Shake, Shamrock Hot Chocolate with mint syrup, a Shamrock Chocolate Chip Frappe and Shamrock Mocha, as well as their traditional Shamrock Shake.
The sweet, green, delectable items will be available in select locations beginning Tuesday. (Lee)Off the beaten path:
Obituary of the Day from Madison, Wisconsin. No word on who wrote it but obviously this guy was loved and had a great sense of humor:
"NICHOLAS BENNETTE WEERTS, age 37, our genuine, funny, warm, kind friend, son, grandson, brother, cousin and nephew, departed this world unexpectedly on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017. He died from complications surrounding not being breast-fed long enough. Nick's favorite things were the Green Bay Packers, the Milwaukee Brewers, pay phones, movies, obscure and repetitive movie references, big sandwiches, hating the Chicago Cubs and hating the Chicago Cubs." (Myers)Weird science:
New England Patriots quarterback TOM BRADY rested up before yesterdays big Super Sporting opening act for LADY GAGA by wearing "bioceramic pajamas." The pajamas, which can cost up to $200 for a top and bottom, are lined with a material that its maker, Under Armour, claims can reflect far-infrared waves back to the body. And that allegedly gives Brady and other members of the $200-dollar-pajama-wearing public a health advantage like reduced inflammation.
So how legit are these super-bioceramic P-Js? According to LiveScience, the health effects of far-infrared radiation on the body are not known --there's simply not enough research yet. But there are some very small related studies that suggest some health benefit for people with arthritis or cramps. The idea is that certain materials like ceramics emit far-infrared radiation, which does get absorbed into the body. So bioceramic materials could in theory, be blocking that radiation and giving Brady a game-day edge.
But the bottom line is that at $200 bucks for the high-tech jammies--maybe wait until more research is in. (Bartha) -
