Top talkables of the day:
April the Giraffe put in a lot of time and work to welcome her newborn bundle of joy and didn't even get to name the six-foot dude! Nope, fans chose the Swahili name "Tajiri" for the calf, which was revealed by the newborn's keeper, ALLYSA SWILLEY, on Facebook Live. The moniker means "hope" and "confidence," which they'd like to give to the species because giraffes are disappearing at an "incredibly fast rate."
Supporters paid a buck per submission and the money will be donated to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, Animal Adventure Park and Ava's Little Heroes --a charity that helps families with medical bills. (Lee)On, off and way-off-Broadway:
Documentary filmmaker MICHAEL MOORE will do a one-man show on Broadway. "The Terms of My Surrender" will run for 12 weeks at the Belasco Theater, beginning July 28th. Michael is calling the performance a (quote), "comedy shiv" aimed directly at President DONALD TRUMP, happening just a few block down from Trump Tower. The tagline is (quote), "Can a Broadway show take down a sitting President?" (Marino)
Today's police blotter:
New York City police stopped a pair of toddlers out for a joyride.
Online video shows NYPD officers pulling up, getting out, and issuing a ticket to a pair of twin two-year-olds caught cruising down the sidewalk in their toy car.
The boys' father, ALEX, says the cops "turned the lights on and made this whole big deal like they were going to pull them over... They were stopping traffic." In the end, the kids weren't really in trouble and everyone just seemed to be having fun with it. Police say the boys "got off with a warning." (Still)Broadcast, cable and video news:
JIMMY KIMMEL had an extra-longlong monologue last night, talking about how his wife, MOLLY, had a baby boy on Fri, Apr 21. WILLIAM "Billy" KIMMEL is their second child, but had to have open-heart surgery at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles three days later. Jimmy is now on paternity leave for the week, while his friends guest host the show.
FYI: Video of Jimmy talking about Billy and encouraging donations to Children's Hospital. -
