New Ecuadorian President LENIN MORENO said yesterday that he has no plans of evicting Wikileaks founder JULIAN ASSANGE from the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he's been hiding since 2012. Moreno maintains that he won't allow Assange in his country, but tells Reuters, "...I respect the situation he is in, which calls for respect of his human rights, but we also ask that he respects the situation he is in."
Assange has been holed up in the embassy for five years to avoid British extradition to Sweden over rape charges. Even though those charges were recently dropped, he could still be arrested if he left the embassy on other charges, and face extradition to the U.S. (Pacelli)Sucks to be you:
DEBRA MESSING may want to consider moving into a bubble. The NY Post's Page Six gossip column reports she gave Haute Livinga very, very long list of things she can't eat or touch before attending an event for the glossy last Tuesday. Apparently the "Will and Grace" star is allergic to all white fish, chicken, mushrooms, gluten, dairy and butter, not to mention wool, cats, cashmere, down feathers, flowers and all flowers except orchids.
Editor's note/Phone starter: I know a young lady that has to be home-schooled because of a severe peanut allergy! Do you have a condition that seriously impairs your life? Has it cost you friendships or even jobs?(Lee)Fashion Emergency:
A pair of very rare white Adidas leather sneakers made for STEVE JOBS featuring the Apple logo are up for auction. The Hollywood Reporter says the size 9-and-a-½ sneakers were unearthed at a Bay Area garage sale. In a couple of weeks, they're expected to bring in as much as $30-thousand dollars. Only two pairs of this design are known to have been manufactured by Adidas for Steve Jobs and they were produced while Steve Jobs was running Apple. (Bartha)
Wasted away again in Margaritaville:
The shocking part of this story is that it DIDN'T happen in Florida. JOSEPH FLOYD, Jr., who's 20, and ZACHARYS BROWN, who's 21, were whooping it up having a few cold ones when they thought it would be a good idea to pour a beer down the throat of a baby alligator they found on the side of the road outside Ridgeland, South Carolina. And of course, these two geniuses posted it to Snapchat and titled it "Gator Shotgun." They were arrested on misdemeanor animal abuse charges. See the picture here. (Myers)
Animal Stories:
US wildlife officials have issued a warning: don't take selfies with seals.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's fisheries office says it's officially "seal pupping season." That means mother seals will be near the shorelines with their new babies. But, no matter how tempting it is, NOAA says you shouldn't try to snap photos near the animals. People and pets should stay at least 150-feet away from seals. If a mother seal sees a human near her pup, there's a danger she'll abandon it and it will die. NOAA also says harassing any marine mammal is illegal. (Still)
