Anniversaries:
25 years ago: Minnesota's Mall of America opened its doors for the first time in 1992. Inside, there's a Lego Imagination Center, a wedding chapel, an Aquarium, a 14-screen movie theatre, Nickelodeon Universe, a large indoor amusement parkand much more. In terms of square feet of retail space, King of Prussia Mall outside Philadelphia is bigger... by about 10-thousand square feet. Southern California's South Coast Plaza is third, tied with Aventura Mall in Miami. But in total numbers of stores, the Mall of America is way larger, with 522 stores. K-of-P is second with450 stores and Palisades Center in Nyack, NY is third with 400 stores.
But all the malls in the U-S are far smaller than the New South China Mall which is 7.1 million square feet worth of stores --the largest in the world. Canada's West Edmonton Mall is the biggest in North America, tied for 21st on the list, with 3.8 million square feet, about a million square feet bigger that the Mall of America. And there are two malls in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which are under construction and expected to be the biggest in the world, each over five times bigger that the Mall of America, which currently ranks 33rd in the world. On, off and way-off-Broadway:
"Jersey Boys" is headed back to New York City. Playbill.com says the hit Broadway musical about the FOUR SEASONS which closed in January of this year will open Off-Broadway at New World Stages in November. No exact dates or casting have been announced yet. (Marino)
Human Nature:
If you're neurotic, congratulations! That trait might help you live longer than your way-more-chilled-out friends. Even though chronic worrying and focusing on the negative can lead to poor health, CNN says recent research shows people with neurotic tendencies also tend to be more creative, faster cognitive processing (the ability to "think fast in your feet") and increased motivation. What's more, neurotic people are more likely to go to their doctor more often --because they're worried!-- increasing the chances a health problem will be caught early. (Bartha)
