Beatles at Shea:
52years ago today, THE BEATLES performed their historic concert at Shea Stadium in New York City.
OK, so rock bands at ballparks isn't a big deal anymore. BILLY JOEL, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, THE WHO, THE CLASH and THE POLICE all did concerts at Shea, but back on August 15th, 1965, no group had ever been popular enough to book a baseball stadium for a show, let alone sell it out. Some Beatles At Shea Factoids:
--55,600 fans were in the stands, there was no seating on the field.
--13-hundred New York City cops were on duty that night at the stadium
--The Beatles' stage was set up at 2nd base.
--ED SULLIVAN introduced The Beatles on stage
--All flights in and out of nearby LaGuardia Airport had to be stopped. The screaming at Shea was so loud that air traffic control could not hear the planes!
--Tickets for the Shea Stadium concert cost $4.50, $5.10 or $5.65 each. (Marino)Weird science:
So-called "smart underpants" might one day be the answer to low back pain. Vanderbilt University engineers have created an undergarment that eases stress on the low back and activates only when a wearer needs it.
WebMD.com says the undergarment is made of nylon canvas, Lycra, polyester and other materials, and it feels and behaves like regular clothes. It has one section for the chest and another for the legs. The sections are connected by straps across the middle back, with natural rubber pieces at the lower back and glutes. A double tap that engages the straps activates the device. It can also be controlled wirelessly using an app. (Bartha)Taking everything much too seriously:
A lady in Ohio got her wish: a personalized license plate with DONALD TRUMP's typo on it.
29-year-old BRITTANY SCOTT of Cortland was so taken by Trump's "covfefe" tweet she applied for a personalized plate bearing the made-up word. And, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles approved it. Scott says, so far, nobody has complained about her plate. The state reviews hundreds of vanity license plate applications every day. It also rejects anything profane or that might provoke violence or criminal activity. (Still)
