Pushing up daisies:
Sorry to hear that FRANK LIBERTO, who's credited with inventing baseball stadium nachos (tortilla chips, jalapenos and nacho cheese) died Sunday in San Antonio, TX. He was 84 years old, and sadly passed away just one day before National Nacho Day.
Frank reportedly began creating the ballpark version of the popular Southwest dish in 1976, using liquid cheese sauce, which allowed for fast service at the ballpark. His grandfather ran a service which supplied products for concessions in malls, stadiums or theatres, but Frank went his own way, starting a food production company called "Ricos" which sold nachos --among other things-- and is still operating today.Sucking the life out of the wire services:
BRITNEY SPEARS is much more than a singer, dancer and mom --she freelances as a painter! The pop tart made a splash on Instagram by painting a masterpiece to the tune of MOZART's "Turkish March." Britney donated one-half of the creation to benefit Vegas Cares, which was promptly purchased by ROBIN LEACH for $10-thousand dollars.
The money will go to help victims of the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival last month.(Lee)On, off and way-off-Broadway:
"Hamilton" creator and original star LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA arrived in Puerto Rico yesterday with good news. Billboard.com says he announced a partnership with a nonprofit group for a hurricane relief fund of more than $2.5-million dollars. The money will go to reconstruction projects and emergency relief efforts. Lin will meet with students at the University of Puerto Rico today.
FYI: Lin's original Alexander Hamilton costume has been donated to the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. (Marino)Today's police blotter:
Police in western Canada say five naked people kidnapped a family of three.
Details surrounding the bizarre case are still a bit unclear. Authorities in Nisku, Alberta, say a mother and her baby were taken against their will along with the baby's grandfather. The family was reportedly taken from their home and forced into a car by five people without clothing. All three managed to escape and were picked up on the side of the road by a passing truck. But, cops say that truck was later rammed by the suspects, sending it into a ditch.
Police arrested three of the suspects and released the other two because they were youths. None of the victims were injured. Officials believe drugs or alcohol were involved but they still don't know why the suspects were naked. (Still) -
