Fashion Emergency:
WINONA RYDER made quite a splash with her new commercial for Elive hair products during the Golden Globe Awards and has a long history with the L'Oreal Paris family. Wi tells People Stylethat she used the company's blue-black hair dye right before she filmed "Lucas" and was loyal to the product on "Beetlejuice." As we told 'ya yesterday (RBR1.8.18) the "Stranger Things" actress has a sweet new gig as a brand ambassador and likes products that are "easy to use and just work."(Lee)
But some people who saw the new ad weren't too happy with it. The ad's tagline: "Everyone loves a comeback. Damaged hair deserves one, too." The New York Postsays the phrase rubbed some viewers the wrong way on a night that was supposed to celebrate gender equality. One Twitter user summing up the general feeling, "Wait, was there just a shampoo ad saying we finally let Winona Ryder back in Hollywood because she fixed her hair?" (Bartha)Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
THE WEEKND won't be doing any more work with H&M. Women's Wear Daily says the singer was offended by a recent ad for the retail clothing chain that featured a male black child wearing a sweatshirt that said "Coolest Monkey In The Jungle" on the front. The Weeknd Tweeted that he was (quote), "shocked and embarrassed by this photo." Other folks have complained, too, and there have been calls to boycott H&M. (Marino)
Animal Stories:
Washington D.C. is full of rats. And we're not just talking about politicians.
The District of Columbia's rodent control division says rat complaints in the city have reached a four-year high. And, their new weapon in dealing with the rodents is dry ice. Exterminators started dropping dry ice blocks down rat-holes and they say it's proving highly effective in eradicating them. Residents are now being encouraged to buy dry ice to get rid of the pests in their own homes.
Editor's note: As a bonus, it also gives your home that year-round haunted house look. (Still)
