Culture Shock:
Shocker in Southern California after officials found 13kids chained to beds in a house in Perris --by their parents!!!
Authorities arrested DAVID and LOUISE TURPIN after one of the victims --an emaciated 17-year-old California girl-- escaped from her parents and called 911 from a cell phone she found in the house.
When authorities arrived, they found 12 people --seven of whom were adults ranging from 18 to 29 years old-- all bound with chains and padlocks. Police said several of them looked like children because of their severe deprivation. The youngest victim was just two years old. The children were reportedly homeschooled.
The Turpins are being held on $9 million bail and could face charges ranging from child endangerment to torture.Lawsuit of the day:
An Army vet is suing a Veterans Affairs Hospital in Connecticut after he says someone left a scalpel inside him after surgery --and it's been there for years!
GLENFORD TURNER says he had surgery at the VA hospital in West Haven in 2013, which was followed by years of abdominal pain. Finally, he went back to the VA hospital last year, suffering from dizziness and severe abdominal pain and an X-Ray that was taken at that point showedthe scalpel inside his body.
At that point, Turner was sent back into surgery to remove the scalpel --which was determined to be the same one from his previous operation.
Turner's lawsuit says "It is shocking that in return for his service, the VA thanked him by deploying a rookie surgical trainee to perform the surgery who showed an incomprehensible level of incompetence by losing the scalpel in Mr. Turner's abdomen and not bothering to find it."Grace notes from Vinny Marino:
BILLY JOEL had more surprise guests at his monthly Madison Square Garden concert. RollingStone.com says last Thursday night's show featured LOU GRAMM and MICK JONES of FOREIGNER. They joined Billy for "Urgent" and "Cold As Ice." Mick produced Billy's 1989 album, "Storm Front." (Marino)
