On, off and way-off-Broadway:
The songs of HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS will be featured in a new stage musical. It's called "The Heart of Rock and Roll" and has a book written by JONATHAN ABRAMS with GORDON GREENBERG ready to direct. There's no casting or production timetable yet. Huey has already been on Broadway. He was one of the many Billy Flynn's in the long-running musical, "Chicago." (Marino)
The Internet:
Could it be PRESIDENT TRUMP's incessant tweeting that has caused Twitter to become profitable after nearly 12 years?
The company announced yesterday that it's had its first profitable quarter since starting, although there was no increase in the total number of monthly users --around 330 million-- during the quarter.
The company's fourth quarter revenue was $732 million, up two-percent from last year, which sent Twitter shares up more than 25 percent yesterday --a two-year high for the company.Small town, small people:
Another day, another kid stuck inside a claw toy vending machine.
Two-year-old MASON was dining with his parents at Beef O'Brady's in Titusville, Florida, when he decided to try the claw toy vending machine. But instead of playing the game, he climbed up the chute and couldn't get back out. Luckily, an off-duty fireman was nearby and heard the kid screaming. More firefighters arrived and they figured out a way to retrieve the kid safely. (Still)
Quotable: "Florida police say it took his parents over 200 quarters to get him out." (A-List Comedy)Anniversaries:
The BEATLES performed on "The Ed Sullivan Show," 1964. Nielsen ratings afterward showed that an estimated 73.7 million people tuned in to watch the Fab Four do five songs: "All My Loving," "Till There Was You," "She Loves You," "I Saw Her Standing There" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand." The Beatles, by the way, picked up a mere $2,400 for the gig --Ed was notoriously cheap.
