On, off and way-off-Broadway:
"Summer: The Donna Summer Musical" opened on Broadway last night at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater. Three actresses, including LaCHANZE, star as the Queen of Disco in this jukebox musical. And, the reviews are in:
--The New York Times: "If ever there were a diva unsuited to the expurgated, down-talking children's book treatment, it's Donna Summer. Her conflicts were adult ones, the stuff of real drama; her music more original and, to those who loved it, more liberating than it ever seems in "Summer."
--Deadline.com: "Anyone who worked as hard for her money --and for a professional respect that came too late-- as Donna Summer did deserves so much more than this."
--The Hollywood Reporter: "I surrendered to Summer's religious fervor and prayed: "Please God, let The Cher Show erase this memory. And let me die before a JLo musical happens. Enough is enough." (Marino)Fashion Emergency:
We told you yesterday that KIM KARDASHIAN is launching a new lingerie and shapewear line. The New York Post also says that Kim is also rolling out a new perfume, called KKW Body, in a bottle shaped just like her own famously curvy figure. Kim told Business of Fashion magazine "It's really cool. The scent is so good, I'm so proud of it. It smells to me like what I would think golden smells like, even though that's a color and something that's just luminous."
Victoria's Secret's emphasis on giving women perky butts and perkier boobs is no longer translating into sales. Fashionista.com says the lingerie retailer recently reported a 6 percent drop in comparable sales for the fourth quarter of 2017, and sales of its "Pink" line declined for the first time since its debut in 2002. To make matters worse, a new report from YouGov says the customer satisfaction score for Victoria's Secret has hit an all-time low. (Bartha)
Losers in Lockup:
A Texas man is headed to prison for over-indulging on fajitas.
53-year-old GILBERTO ESCAMILLA pleaded guilty to stealing over a million dollars worth of fajitas over nine-year years. Officials say Escamilla was employed at the Cameron County juvenile center when he ordered the spicy dish to be served in the kitchen. Only, the fajitas never made it to the kitchen. Instead, Escamilla allegedly sold them to his own customers. Things unraveled when a delivery truck showed up and Escamilla wasn't there to intercept it. Kitchen workers informed the driver that they never serve fajitas at the juvenile center and the scam was quickly uncovered.
Escamilla has been sentenced to 50-years. (Still) -
