Best Buy stopped selling CD's in its stores yesterday (Sunday).
Billboard magazine says the demise of CDs was foretold, thanks to digital streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora and others, and now, Best Boy says sales of CDs only amount to around $40-million dollars a year.
But --and this is a bit weird, considering-- Best Buy says they'll continue to sell vinyl records for the next two years.Today's police blotter:
Imagine hopping into a rental car and finding this.
Police in California say a 5-foot boa constrictor was found slithering around a car that had just been returned to the airport. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office says the customers who just returned the vehicle had no idea where the snake came from. They had been using the car for about two weeks. Luckily, one of the deputies had experience wrangling snakes. Police posted photos of the animal to Facebook with the caption: "If you left your snake in a rental car at the Oakland Airport please give us a call." Authorities say the boa is safe but likely misses its owners. (Still)Pet Patrol:
Baileythe pug is back home --but not without a harrowing kidnapping incident.
Bailey's owner, MICHAEL GREEN, of Kitchener, Ontario, said that he and his girlfriend went out shopping last Sunday and left their screen door open for their cats to come and go. Someone decided to help themselves to Bailey while they were out.
They put up posters all around and got a phone call from a woman that said she would meet them at a nearby convenience store. His girlfriend said, "She came in and she was really, really nervous. She didn't want anyone to know who she was or anything like that." She gave them an address to go to and the people there sent them to another address. A man there took their number and said he would call in 30 minutes. Another man contacted them and said he would tell them where Bailey was if they paid him $150 bucks. He texted Green's girlfriend with a picture of Bailey and told her to meet him behind a church and they could exchange the dog for the cash.
The couple had already been in contact with the police, who set up a sting and were able to make arrests and recover Bailey and get him back home safely. "And my kids have their dog back and we have our family pet back." (Myers)Health and Medical Briefs:
We're doing a really bad job of washing our hands. Mashable.com says a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) study that observed people preparing a meal in the kitchen found they failed to wash their hands properly a whopping 97 percent of the time. That's a big problem when microbes on our hands can easily cross-contaminate food. The USDA says to wash your hands for 20 seconds, with warm water and soap, to kill off (most) harmful microbes.
